About the Job
Hudson River Trading (HRT) is looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join the Developer Tools team.
DevTools builds and maintains server and software build infrastructure, as well as tooling for the same, that is used by all teams across the firm.
This includes designing, building, scaling, and supporting HRT’s code collaboration and review platforms, and scaling and writing tooling to make it easier to build and test software.
Additionally, our systems are used to run periodic batch jobs integral to automated processes across the company.
We collaborate closely with other software development teams to think and design strategically in an effort to better support the company’s development needs into the future.
We also work with our colleagues in systems engineering to ensure systems are designed and supported with an eye toward maintaining a high bar for developer experience in a high velocity environment.This role offers a unique opportunity to interface with and have an impact on development processes across the firm, not limited to specific subgroups.ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain tools and software to automate, monitor, and improve build, test, and development workflowsAnalyse build patterns and troubleshoot systemic resource usage to reason about, design, and advocate more efficient processes, working with clients of our build infrastructure to identify and implement specific improvementsConsult with developers to help software engineers understand how to solve problems and interface with linux systems effectively and with an understanding toward sound systems engineering principlesQualificationsRequiredPython programmingAbility to debug and analyse problems quicklyAbility to learn at a fast pace and apply knowledge effectivelySolid understanding of Linux/UNIX operating systems2+ years of relevant experienceAble to work effectively as a team player, but can also work independentlySkilled at juggling multiple tasks while maintaining a high attention to detailComfortable using, supporting, debugging, and where necessary patching open source software across a variety of languagesBachelors or Masters degree in computer science or a related fieldPreferredJava and/or Groovy programmingFamiliarity with systems configuration management and monitoring technologiesFamiliarity with the Debian operating systemFamiliarity with Jenkins and/or Gerrit Code Review and/or PhabricatorAnnual base salary range of $150,000 to $250,000.
Pay (base and bonus) may vary depending on job-related skills and experience.
