The Integrated Products Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to help support a growing list of projects involving modernization of explosives and energetic materials production facilities, munitions production, and novel production system design. In this role you will collaborate with explosives and munitions subject matter experts, federal stakeholders, to support research and development capabilities and ongoing production operations. Candidates for this position must be a US citizen residing within the US. This position is located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head (NSWC-IH) and you must be willing to work onsite.
Specific project background involves Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD) which is a Navy arsenal that provides manufacturing, engineering, and technical expertise in all areas relative to energetics development and manufacturing in support of the Department of Defense (DoD) mission. To provide these services to the DoD, NSWC IHD operates and services a host of energetic technical development centers, product manufacturing facilities and equipment, with the bulk of the work in Indian Head, MD (30 miles south of Washington DC). NSWC IHD is rapidly expanding to meet the country’s energetic material needs and requires additional support to improve efficiency and maintain effectiveness. Energetic materials include formulations for chemicals, munitions, propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, and other materials which can generate explosive hazards.
Essential Functions:
- Research, develop, test, evaluate (RDT&E), manufacture and provide in-service support of energetics and energetic systems.
- Work and partner with subject matter experts to ensure safe and cost-effective execution of production capabilities for energetic materials and related applications (munitions, rockets, warheads, etc.).
- Create and manage technical requirements.
- Manage technical risk and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Generate customer facing documentation.
- Analyze and identify customer needs.
- Work under supervised direction, but with an ability to independently determine and develop approaches to solutions.
- Manage and prioritize numerous assignments simultaneously.
- Travel up to 10% to support customer meetings and for training.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor's in engineering discipline or related scientific field (physics, chemistry, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience as a systems engineer or related technical experience integrating across design teams.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clear written and oral briefings including the ability to adopt content for specific audiences.
- Effective Communicator
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Tools; Word, Excel, Power Point and Project
Preferred:
- Advanced Degree in an engineering or related technical field is preferred.
- Experience with the production, handling, processing, and design of energetic materials related to defense applications.
- Process engineering and integration knowledge.
- Knowledge of quality requirements and system qualification.
- Active DOD or DOE security clearance.
