About the Job
The Senior Sustainability Engineer will be responsible for supporting the activities of the Global Sustainability team related to ESG reporting and GHG emissions from marine and offshore vessels/assets as well as activities associated with other sustainability-related projects. These include but are not limited to benchmarking, statistical analysis, and sustainability reporting. The Senior Engineer I, Sustainability is a business administration and technology expert, with the business acumen and engineering abilities to understand a complex organization, devise technical solutions and work as a liaison between the commercial, marketing, and technical teams.

- Maintain a solid understanding of emerging regulatory frameworks related to GHG emissions and waste streams.
- Support the department's different projects, services, and other activities within the department, specifically in the ESG and Carbon Accounting space.
- Interact with clients to perform services offered by the Global Sustainability team.
- Establish and manage client projects.
- Update and inform the Global Sustainability team on regulatory and non-regulatory changes (ESG, Carbon Accounting and Sustainable Procurement) and their impact on ABS business.
- May develop methodologies, tools, and services related to GHG emissions and other areas of interest relating to the activities associated with the Global Sustainability Team.
- May conduct seminars and workshops related to the environmental performance of marine vessels and offshore units.
- Support the associated service delivery across all geographic locations of Sustainability.
- May perform an annual assessment of new service requirements. May develop associated Project Management plans and include them in annual budget preparations.
- Contribute to authoring ABS publications and thought leadership documents.
- Maintain awareness of the overall ABS service portfolio and promote services/products when appropriate.
- Work with organizational teams to develop capture strategies, proposals, and pricing as appropriate.
- May provide strategic insights related to future business initiatives, market drivers, and competitor activities for inclusion in business planning.
- May execute and drive sales strategies, meet or exceed sales and revenue targets.
- Develop and maintain key client relationships with a focus on maintaining current work and expanding new business opportunities and prospects for new clients.
- Attend industry events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
- May support the Product & Digital Solution Development, Survey & Certification, Engineering Delivery, and Rule Development Core Processes as needed to achieve organizational business outcomes.
- Identify opportunities for marketing campaigns within the area of responsibility that will lead to increased sales.
- Submit reports as needed and ensure data is accurately entered and managed within the company's CRM.
- Support any other technical tasks that fall under the scope of the sustainability center.
- Works as a team member within the group, but will work autonomously most of the time.
Education and Experience
- Requires a BSc in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on environmental performance. MSc degree preferred.
- Requires a minimum of eight (8) years of related engineering experience in a recognized research university, research institute, shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society.
- Previous experience in business development or sales in a technical and diverse product environment is preferred.
- Advanced experience with heavy industry specifically marine or offshore applications is preferred.
- Prior experience writing ESG reports using various frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, ISSB) is highly desirable.
- Advanced knowledge of GHG emission calculations and regulations (US EPA 40 CFR 98, GHG Protocol, ISO 14064) impacts, and technology transition.
- Knowledge of Sustainable Procurement with specific knowledge of ISO 20400 is very desirable.
- Experience with programming and advanced use of MS Office.
- Commercial understanding of the new-building process, yards, and chartering processes.
- Must be capable of presenting and working with clients.
- Develop business insights through research and analysis.
- Ability to identify and provide regular updates and overviews on new leads and potential business opportunities.
