Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Structural Design Engineer to to spearhead the development and prototyping of advanced, lightweight thermal protection systems and hot structures. In this position, you will oversee the technical design and analysis processes, with a strong emphasis on manufacturability using high-temperature carbon and ceramic composites. Your responsibilities will span the entire design cycle, allowing you to play an important role in shaping innovative high-temperature composite systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of innovative high-speed flight structures based on customer requirements.
- Use your knowledge of advanced high temperature composite and metallic material behavior and performance to ensure designs are manufacturable and production scalable.
- Conduct thermal and structural analysis of designs, coordinating verification tests from initial samples to prototypes under realistic conditions.
- Lead initiatives to provide input, feedback, and assessment during the creation of new modeling and simulation tools.
- Document and share best practices for designing with advanced high-temperature composites to enhance the field.
- Contribute to the exploration and refinement of new material systems through requirement analysis and performance modeling.
- Create technical documentation to capture and disseminate knowledge gained with the broader team.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and advocate for safe working practices at all times.
- Other duties as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in structural design and analysis, preferably in aerospace or defense.
- Previous experience working with carbon composites is required
- Experience with CAE toolss, including 3D modeling software (such as Catia V5, SolidWorks, NX) and finite element analysis applications (like HyperSizer, ABAQUS, NASTRAN).
- Familiarity with best practices in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical report writing and presentations.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
