About the Job
Senior/Staff/Principal Electrical Engineer
Open Position – Senior/Staff/Principal Electrical Engineer
Horizon Surgical Systems Inc.
Horizon Surgical Systems Inc. is revolutionizing the world of surgical ophthalmology by developing a novel, AI driven, and imaging-guided surgical robotic system. Our aim is to expand access to care, provide superior capabilities to the human surgeon, and enhance patient outcomes. Microsurgery in general and Ophthalmology are subfields of surgery for which the surgical outcomes can be significantly improved by robotic systems to allow superior dexterity, precision, accuracy, and visualization beyond the human surgeon’s own capabilities.
We are seeking highly motivated, detail-oriented, and intellectually inquisitive individuals looking to make a positive impact on healthcare via the development of robotic technology. The core values of Horizon Surgical Systems Inc. are:
- Commitment to Excellence: We aim to deliver superior patient outcomes and surgeon experiences.
- Passion for Creativity and Innovation: We are driven by new ideas and aim to push the boundaries of what's possible.
- Teamwork and Camaraderie: We achieve our best when we collaborate and work together.
- Welcoming of Critical Opinion: We are enriched by constructive criticism and support the best ideas.
- Personal Accountability: We honor our commitments and take responsibility for our actions.
Horizon Surgical Systems Inc. offers:
- An opportunity to build autonomous surgical robotic systems driven by image guidance and AI technology for the future of affordable, high-quality healthcare.
- The opportunity to work alongside clinicians, engineers, and global leaders in cutting-edge AI, imaging, and robotics technology.
- Competitive compensation and an excellent company-paid benefits package.
In your role as an engineer at Horizon Surgical Systems, you will select components and design systems (hardware and software) as part of a complete product subjected to FDA regulations. Your design will be subject to safety and efficacy requirements.
The level of title will be determined case by case, based on the candidate's qualifications and years of experience: Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer or higher.
We are seeking Electrical Engineers with significant experience in robotics and medical device product development to contribute to a novel surgical robotic system for ophthalmology.
Qualifications:
- Education and experience in relevant disciplines such as electrical, computer, or robotics engineering.
- Experience in architecting computational and electrical hardware systems for safety-critical robotic systems that include real-time, AI, and image-guided subsystems.
- Proven experience in electrical design of robotic systems and/or medical devices.
- Experience in PCB design, component selection, and wiring.
- Familiarity with design in compliance with FDA guidelines and relevant standards including IEC 60601-1 and IEC60601-1-2.
- Hands-on experience in prototyping, debugging, and testing.
- Sufficient programming ability in languages/software such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ to design, test, and analyze performance of developed hardware systems.
Expectations and Responsibilities:
- Lead and participate in teams, and work independently, to develop the electro-mechanical subsystems of a complete surgical robotic system able to pass relevant electrical testing standards.
- Document the electrical aspects of the surgical robotic system.
- Participate in the hands-on prototyping, debugging, and testing of the surgical robotic system.
- Contribute to design standards, the Quality Management System, and project planning.
- Apply all available tools, software, training, and experience to effectively analyze and solve engineering problems, mitigate potential risks, and maximize system functionality and safety.
- Assist and cooperate with other teams and colleagues to find solutions to interdisciplinary challenges inherent in complex robot system development.
- Commute to, and work on-site, at our Malibu-based office.
- Effectively communicate and present to upper management, within and between teams, and to external parties.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-tech startup that is poised to revolutionize surgical robotics in ophthalmology.
