Senior Staff Accountant

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and reviewing financial statements and accounting activities in accordance with established accounting principles. This role involves assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close processes, as well as supporting internal audit activities. The Senior Staff Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information and contributes to the overall financial health of the organization.

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and reviewing financial statements and accounting activities in accordance with established accounting principles. This role involves assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close processes, as well as supporting internal audit activities. The Senior Staff Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information and contributes to the overall financial health of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Record Management: Compile and analyze accounting activities to manage records of account entries.
- Financial Reporting: Maintain and prepare financial statements and documents related to the division's financial position. Provide reports and facilitate audits as needed.
- Statement Review: Ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance of financial statements with accounting standards.
- Payroll Processing: Enter payroll change requests to reflect staffing changes.
- Budgeting: Contribute to the development and review of annual budgets and performance projections to drive company growth.
- Policy Monitoring: Review and suggest improvements for reporting and recording policies to meet business needs.
- Project Support: Assist Division Controller, Assistant Division Controller, and Operations Management in completing financial projects.
- Professional Development: Participate in training and learning opportunities to enhance knowledge of company products and services.
- Financial Modeling: Assist in completing and analyzing financial models for contract acquisition.
Career Path Definitions & Distinctions
Level 1:
- Understanding: General knowledge of the division's financial and operational functions.
- Month-End Close: Participate in processes like post accruals, balance reconciliations, inventory adjustments, and revenue and tonnage entries.
- Systems Knowledge: Familiar with NetSuite, ADP, LotusNotes, and SoftPak. Capable of navigating key statements in NetSuite and operating SoftPak billing processes.
Level 2:
- Purchase Orders: Confidently use purchase orders in NetSuite.
- Reporting: Utilize master spreadsheets in Longview for Excel; learn to create ad hoc reports.
- Invoice Preparation: Capable of preparing invoices.
- Net Revenue & SOX Controls: Understand net revenue for hauling division operations and SOX controls related to these operations.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience: 1-2 years of previous accounting or related experience preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong team collaboration skills.
- Excellent relationship management, listening, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, with a strong background in Excel.
