Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM with after-hours on-call as needed.
Equipment Operated: Computer/Laptop, Printer, Scanner, Phone, Adaptive Devices, etc.
Work Environment: This position will spend time at the program site and have an independent (private) office. This position will spend time at the site. The Staff Accountant will share the office with the Finance team.
Travel: A minimum two days on-site per week and as needed. Remote work isarranged on the rest of the working days including meetings. (Subject to change as needed.)

Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community. Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and nonresidential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence, transitional shelter to the disabled homeless, and outreach to physically disabled individuals with mental health and/or chemical addiction issues. Services include case management; housing placements; independent living skills training; occupational therapy; short and long-term individual counseling; advocacy within the medical, mental health, child welfare, law enforcement, and criminal justice systems; and referrals to outside services.

The Staff Accountant is a full-time non-exempt position under the direct supervision of the Chief Fiscal Officer. responsible for the organization's financial management. The finance team is responsible for ensuring that the organization. The Staff Accountant
works closely with the Chief Fiscal Officer, Accounts Payable Clerk and the Payroll Clerk to ensure that the organization complies with the applicable financial regulations and laws. The Staff Accountant must be comfortable interacting with external funders,
vendors, external auditors, the Executive Team and the Program Directors of the various programs offered by Barrier Free Living

Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Associate degree in business, accounting, or related field is preferred;
- 2+ years’ experience in a non-profit accounting/bookkeeping environment;
- Knowledge/Proficiency in NetSuite or similar accounting software is preferred;
- Excellent computer and reporting skills, particularly Microsoft and accounting package applications;
- Detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to think and act calmly in emergency situations and can maintain a professional demeanor at all times;
- Familiarity in working with domestic violence survivors or people with disabilities is desirable;
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills;
- Ability to work independently or as a team member as needed; and
- Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination record.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the team with month-end close and prepping and entering month-end journal entries;
- Assist the CFO with preparation, review and analysis of budgets, forecasts, and financial statements to ensure their accuracy and completeness;
- Assist with preparation of Form 990, 1099s, and other benefit, tax, and regulatory schedules
- Monitor monthly and quarterly budget-to-actual numbers and timely share such reports with designated Program Directors and leadership;
- Assist in entering budgets and budget modifications in funders’ grant management systems (HHS A, Grants Gateway, CMS, Etc.);
- Assist in entering board-approved yearly budget in NetSuite;
- Reconcile Account Receivable accounts and follow up with funders for any outstanding balances;
- Prepare bi-weekly vacation, sick, personal accrual balance report;
- Prepare year-end vacation liability accrual report;
- Assist in organize funders’ contracts and billing documents;
- Assist in updating agency employee payroll allocations spreadsheet based on most recent approved budgets;
- Prepare monthly journal entries between programs of the organization;
- Assist in preparing monthly bank reconciliations when is needed;
- Assist in process bi-weekly payroll and prepare payroll related reports when needed;
- Assist Chief Fiscal Officer with special projects related to agency’s internal and funder audits;
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping all information confidential;
- Work closely with Accounts Payable and Payroll staff to resolve issues and unpaid invoices.
- Assist in preparing Accounting Depreciation Schedules.
