About the Opportunity We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong node.js development experience in designing, implementing, and deploying backend APIs/microservices. You will also maintain and support such services in high-traffic production environments in the AWS cloud. This includes hands on contributions for the entire lifecycle of features, including engineering design, development, and deployment as well as providing support to engineering leaders to make sure interfaces, integrations, and all necessary lines of demarcation are clear, meaningful, and accurate. You will report to the Staff Engineering Director and work within an agile application team that develops and maintains highly visible and critical applications. The Senior Engineer will maintain awareness and knowledge of the emerging trends in technology, and its usage within the industry, and will apply this learning in the establishment of new and innovative technology strategies to support College Board's business needs. The candidate will also work with the teams to establish related practices, standards, and guidelines and provide oversight and adoption support to solution delivery teams. In this role, you will: * Design, develop, test and deploy highly scalable REST APIs, microservices, data pipelines and other event driven applications using Node.JS and serverless technologies in AWS. * Continuously deliver new software features by developing infrastructure-as-code (CDK) and scripting of automated CI/CD pipelines. * Implement observability solutions that allow our team to log, monitor, and analyze system health and user activity patterns. * Identify opportunities for improving application functionality and performance issues by working with customers and architecture resources. * Utilize application development tools and methodologies across multiple platforms. * Collaborate with the team to deliver code that uses best practices and design patterns, that includes comprehensive unit testing, and that has gone through a sound code-review process. Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent is required * Minimum 7 years of experience in professional software development * Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on development experience at a senior level * Minimum 3-5 years of strong backend development experience in JavaScript and Node.js * Minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on experience developing solutions with AWS services, including Lambda, S3, Step Functions, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS, CloudWatch and more * Proactive with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility * Capable of analyzing, planning, designing, and owning complex or vaguely defined issues with little or no supervision * Collaborative attitude that incorporates various perspectives * Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical peers * Strong problem solving, project management, and organizational skills * Experience in DevOps and Agile methodologies Bonus qualifications * Experience with Java * Hands-on experience with AWS CDK and/or CloudFormation * Experience with Linux shell scripting * Hands-on experience developing or interfacing with React front-end applications About Our Benefits and Compensation College Board offers a strong compensation and benefits package that attracts top talent looking to make a difference in education. * Our robust benefits package includes health, dental, and vision insurance, tuition assistance, paid time off, paid parental leave, retirement benefits with a generous matching program, and more. * We reward performance through annual bonuses and provide opportunities for salary growth over time through base compensation increases, merit raises and promotions. * We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact. The salary range for a new employee in this position is $144k-157k.
