The Oral Genealogies project digitizes and stores living memory genealogies. Our team is doing a complete rebuild of the current system. We will be using Node and React. We are currently gathering data from several countries in Africa. The new system will be used globally. At FamilySearch we practice agile development and continuous delivery.

Your Role: As a Senior Software Engineer at FamilySearch.org, you will drive the development of robust and scalable software solutions. You will collaborate with a talented team of engineers, designers, and product managers to enhance the FamilySearch.org platform and deliver exceptional user experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and deploy front and backend functionality for a web application used to transcribe genealogy data captured from oral interviews.
- Perform enhancements to a mobile android app so that it can be leveraged for new countries, localized for new languages and layout.
- Rebuild an existing data audit process, making it more automated, streamlined, and consolidated.
- Build a cloud database and migrate data from on-premises servers.
- Build and deploy a service that automatically transcribes PDF scans.
- Develop and maintain scalable, performant, and secure web applications using Node and React.
- Take ownership of projects throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Conduct thorough code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support the work of junior engineers.
- Uphold software engineering best practices, including code quality, documentation, and maintainability.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 8 years of progressive relevant professional experience
- Between 3 and 5 years of professional experience in software development, with a focus on web-based applications.
- A minimum of 2 years developing RESTful Node services.
- A minimum of 2 years developing web applications in React.
- Experience in scrum agile development
- Cloud Computing (Amazon AWS)
- Python, or Android development
- Desktop C#
- Software development and test engineering experience on large projects
