IT Concepts is seeking a Senior Section 508 Accessibility Specialist who will support several projects at a federal agency. The position is located in Woodlawn, MD. This position requires in-depth experience evaluating and remediating documents to ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards. The qualified candidate will be responsible for identifying and addressing accessibility issues in various document formats and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve accessibility practices.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and quickly remediate Section 508 non-compliant documents across various file types such as Adobe PDFs, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
- Accurately identify areas of non-compliance with Section 508 guidelines in documents and implement necessary corrections.
- Remediate documents for accessibility-related issues, including color contrast and color usage in native formats like MS Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Conduct quality control reviews on PDFs, PowerPoint, and Word documents to ensure they meet Section 508 standards.
- Collaborate with team members to find solutions to technical challenges in accessibility compliance.
- Assist project teams in identifying Section 508 requirements for application development and procurement initiatives.
- Guide tools and resources available for planning, designing, developing, and testing applications for Section 508 compliance.
- Develop and implement processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Section 508 planning, design, development, and testing activities.
- Prepare and conduct training sessions on Section 508 accessibility planning, design, and testing.
- Identify and establish best practices for implementing Section 508 standards.
- Participate in research related to the practical implementation of Section 508, particularly concerning emerging technologies.
- Deliver presentations to senior management and other organizations on Section 508 compliance and accessibility initiatives
Location: Hybrid in Woodlawn, MD
Salary Range: $75,000-90,000. Factors influencing pay within this range include geography, market demand, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 8 or more years of relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Section 508 accessibility standards for documents.
- Proficiency in using JAWS and/or other accessibility software.
- Expertise in using Section 508 tools in Adobe Acrobat DC, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
- Experience with document remediation tools such as Adobe Pro with Common Look PDF Plug-in.
- Strong proficiency in remediating PDF, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents for Section 508 compliance.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with an exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Exceptional grammar, spelling, punctuation, and writing skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and respond to requests promptly.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage assignments according to customer requirements.
- Outstanding time-management skills, with the ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines.
- Creative problem-solving ability to address challenges efficiently.
Clearance:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust Clearance
