ModeX Therapeutics, an OPKO Health Company, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated senior scientist /principal scientist with expertise in vector development and gene delivery to join our team.  The principal responsibilities of his/her role will be to carry out early research project from developing novel vector system to evaluation of novel gene transfer technologies using in vitro assays and in vivo animal models.  The individual will work in the state-of-the-art laboratory and be responsible for experimental planning and execution, data analysis and presentation.  This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a cross-functional team and contribute to the development of next-generation synthetic biology therapeutics in a fast-paced, rapidly growing biotech company with a bold vision.     

Major responsibilities

• Interact closely and be part of interdisciplinary research teams to drive the discovery and development of innovative non-viral delivery technology such as lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform and the optimization of their biological and biophysical properties.
• Lead the effort to develop DNA and RNA vector systems in combination with non-viral delivery technologies such as LNP for sustained gene expression in vitro and in vivo.
• Develop and implement the research strategy including experimental design, carrying out the studies, data analysis, problem solving, and technology optimization using in vitro assays and in mouse/NHP models for specific therapeutic applications.
• Interpret results and present/communicate with cross-functional colleagues for successful execution and completion of projects.
• Stay scientifically current and contribute to the implementation of new technology and instrumentation.
• Ensure effective, high-quality, timely and appropriate documentation in electronic laboratory notebooks.
• Potential management role in supervising junior scientist and research associate.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MD with 5 years or more years working experience in gene delivery, non-viral and viral vector development, mRNA delivery technology, or related field with excellent track record from academia or industry.
• Expertise in the development of non-viral vector system, lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system and experiences in vivo models from mice to NHP are highly desirable. 
• Hand-on experiences in molecular biology, in vitro/in vivo gene delivery, cell-based in vitro assays, and reporter assays are essential.
• Excellent written and oral communication, organization, and data analysis skills.  Outstanding learning ability, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Highly adaptable to a fast-paced work environment and capable to work independently as well as within project teams.
