The successful candidate will join an established, highly successful safety team and report to the Corporate Safety Manager, and be based out of Nashua, NH.
Qualification Requirements
General
- Provide safety support for all construction projects, asphalt plant environment and a quarry.
- Engage with external regulators on safety management systems and execution requirements with coordination across project teams.
- Assist construction management in developing and maintaining effective written construction safety programs.
- Assist in developing content for applicable safety training.
- Provide safety training for project management teams.
- Perform safety audits at construction site locations, asphalt plants and quarries where assigned.
- Stay current and up to date with safety regulations, industry developments, or trends that would affect the evolving.
- Attend organizational events planned that require your attendance.
- Work closely with the management team to develop new programs and delivery methods around safety continuous improvement.
- Assist with managing needs from third-party vendors and insurance claims
- Provide leadership and strategic support for all construction safety programs and MSHA programs by developing robust solutions designed to mitigate defined safety risks.
- Interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of people and teams.
- Monitor construction site safety and quarries and prepare notices of unsafe working conditions.
- Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures; determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future and report or review findings from accident investigations.
- Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Verify that safety equipment is available to employees and monitor their use of such equipment to ensure proper fit and use.
- Prepare and review specifications and orders for the purchase of safety equipment, ensuring that proper features are present and that items conform to health and safety standards.
- Liaison between Newport Construction and client safety personnel on matters concerning the safety and health of employees on site and office.
- Perform periodic site safety audits to maintain compliance with Company, local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct job hazard analysis. Identify existing and predictable hazards and recommend feasible corrective measures.
- Assist with confined space entry and applicable safety equipment and requirements.
- Responsible for insuring supervisor’s complete accident reports. Investigate incidents and ensure proficient reporting, identification of contributing factors, and recommend practices to eliminate future accidents, illnesses, equipment damages, and near miss incidents.
- Coordinate with supervisors on appropriate non-emergency medical care. Confer with medical providers and assist Risk Management with day-to-day case management.
- Monitor and audit compliance with DOT regulations, including:
- Driver Qualifications Files
- Duty Status Logs
- Vehicle Inspections/Maintenance
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of state and federal regulatory activity (DOT, OSHA, EPA, etc.) Interpret and apply applicable regulations and assist with development of programs aimed at compliance.
- Assist with the implementation of the Safety Incentive Programs.
- Monitor maintenance of OSHA logs.
- Monitor and audit field-level compliance with Substance Abuse Program.
- Perform other reasonable tasks that may be requested by the Company.
Education and Experience
- A four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or Safety Management, or related equivalent is required.
- Working field knowledge including: Heavy Highway and Bridge Construction, Crane Operations, Asphalt Plant and Lay down Activities
- Traffic Control Safety Certification
- CDL/DOT experience along with various other grade and utility construction preferred.
- MSHA or Mining quarries experience is preferred.
- 10+ years of safety-related experience
- 5+ years of Construction or Industrial Safety
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and computer database functions. A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record are required.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
- Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
- Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Continuous mental attention is required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.
Work Environment
- Work is performed indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction, mining and asphalt sites)
