Senior Research Engineer I- Mobility ENC - Saint-Gobain

Saint-Gobain Research North America is looking for a talented, and energetic research engineer to join our growing Mobility-Engineered Components team. We are searching for an experienced, hands-on project leader to investigate, research, and develop new materials, including sustainable products and technologies that strengthen our offerings. The new team member will have the opportunity to leverage their engineering and materials expertise by leading their projects from the initial stages of conceptualization, prototyping, and experimental testing to the implementation in manufacturing. Projects will focus on process and product development activities and follow a Gate-based methodology with a focus on design/change control. The candidate is also expected to be seen as a leader within the group that is a resource to other group members and different businesses. Phases of development include ideation, product/process development, pilot, scale-up, and implementation of R&D processes into manufacturing.
The selected candidate will be expected to lead R&D projects through effective collaboration with R&D colleagues, commercial, and manufacturing team members, application engineers, external customers, and external suppliers. The candidate will create and execute project plans, design, and conduct experiments, analyze data, and present findings in written and oral formats. The candidate will act as a materials expert internally to support a variety of programs and platforms in different markets.
The main job duties will include:
+ Manages projects from inception through scale-up. Manages multiple projects simultaneously, on time, well documented, and within budget. Able to balance creativity with process and documentation.
+ Extensively utilizes research and/or project experiences and broad expertise of high temperature/high-performance polymers, materials, processes, techniques, and products to improve on or develop products, increase performance, or reduce costs, to maximize production and/or support fundamental research within high-performance polymers such as polyimides, polyamide-imide and polyaryl ketones as well as engineering polymers.
+ Incumbent defines the associated tasks and milestones for research and proposes the technical approach, cost estimates, and time schedule. Upon approval, the incumbent is responsible for equipment purchases, prototype development, supervision of the project team, and compilation of results and recommendations
+ Stays aware of new technology applications and competitive uses of same in work with materials, products, and processes, and in the development of new knowledge.
+ Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision-making.
+ Keeps project teams on track with project timelines and budgets.
+ Understands Gate Process methodology/ideology and utilizes and incorporates it in research projects

+ Able to communicate technically with internal competencies and university collaborators and utilize knowledge to advance projects and identify productive synergies.
+ Able to communicate and use business language in an industrial environment and coordinate with plant operations.
+ Be able to fill in standard deliverables for project management through interactions with internal contacts outside of R&D
+ Demonstrated project management skills, team collaboration, and oral, written, and visual communication skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
+ BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience or MS with 3+ years’ experience or an entry-level Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Plastic/Polymer Engineering, Material Science, or other related disciplines.
