Position Overview
Job Description: We’re hiring a Senior Real Estate Accountant to join our team in Palo Alto, California! Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Real Estate Accountant will focus on analyzing a portfolio of property financials submitted by our subsidiary team and work closely with the Corporate Senior Accountant to facilitate the close process of our MMC corporate entity. This position involves a multitude of accounting activities including account reconciliation, general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and supporting budget and forecasting activities. Please note: MMC has a fiscal year end of March 31st.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage monthly roll-up of property financials for financial consolidation by MMC’s corporate entity
- Prepare and review property variance analysis on income statement, balance sheet, actual/budget variances to facilitate monthly close
- Work closely with our multifamily subsidiary’s property accounting group and business process owners
- Perform detailed analytical review of property financials
- Prepare and review the recording of significant transactions in the general ledger including sales, acquisitions, refinancing
- Support various collaborative projects, including the development of company business plans and forecasts, preparing finance status, equity by project, and metrics reports
- Prepare schedules for the annual audit and provide audit support as needed
- Assist in Yardi implementation of properties financials within investment manager module
- Prepare monthly/quarterly account reconciliation, bank reconciliation property schedules
- Prepare monthly properties receivable report and research/reconcile property receivable balances
- Document procedures and streamline processes when possible
- Identify internal control weaknesses and provide recommendations
- Other projects as needed
Education & ExperiencKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus on business or real estate
- 7 - 10 years of experience with project entitlements is required; strong experience with taking residential development projects from inception to completion is also required
- Computer literate with thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Experience mentoring staff and leading outside consultants; strong collaborator
- Must have a solid technical understanding and experience with residential design and construction
- Must have strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, including strong negotiation skills
- Professional demeanor with a strong work ethic, customer service-oriented, politically savvy
- Good organizational skills with excellent judgment and decision-making skills
Qualification & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a similar field; CPA is a plus
- 4 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area
- Real estate (multi-family) and property accounting experience is a plus
