About the Job
Responsibilities:
- Organize daily activities based on business priorities provided by R&D Director.
- Maintain accurate records of R&D materials, equipment and samples stored in all R&D areas according to established practices and procedures.
- Maintain accurate laboratory and project work documentation.
- Maintain clean and organized laboratory work environment including supplies inventory and maintenance, and routine cleaning
- Prepare samples for shipment to customers.
- Formulate and create bench top samples for presentation to inside and outside customers, while maintaining awareness of current plant process capabilities.
- Engage in the troubleshooting and recommendation/ modifications to existing product formula's and/or processes to improve productivity, quality, and/or product cost.
- Support and participate in plant line trials and production start-ups
- Ability to represent The Company when interacting with customers
- Support Sales and Marketing channels with customer presentations. This requires formal "customer facing in a professional manner with a sound working knowledge of company products, processes, and capabilities.
- Responsible for selection and evaluation of raw materials
- Responsible for interpretation of data from experiments/analyses, troubleshooting failures.
- Engage in sourcing and approval of new ingredients, while working with purchasing
- Understand the development of nutritional information for product development
- Responsible for creation of appropriate nutritional and label information
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and recommend projects to implement
- Involved in research of cost saving ideas identified by other team members from all departments
- Responsible for lab trials and plant trial process
- Coordinate with production on trials for ingredient changes, replacement/substitutions, etc., as initiated by suppliers, or customer
- Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
- Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
- Knowledge of GMP's and HACCP Service oriented
- Participate in all necessary training is required to successfully perform job responsibilities
- B.S. in Food Science, Food Engineering or related field
- 5-8+ years relevant experience in food preparation/food industry (preferably in the confectionary industry)
- Extensive leadership in one or more of the areas of R&D or QA
- Organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to work with cross functional departments within the organization
- Problem solving, verbal, communication, and listening skills, excellent analytical and decision-making abilities; good presentation skills
- Detail oriented
- Strong time management skills
- Customer Service communication skills
- Work well in team-based environment as well working alone
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office Programs
- Must be well motivated, self-starter, dependable
- Responsible --- high sense of ownership
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to formulate, work with accounting to cost out products, and run the whole project from beginning to end.
