Overview
Perform a variety of duties to determine that materials, products and/or processes are in accordance with specifications and requirements. Perform standard inspections. Make visual, dimensional, electrical, or mechanical inspections of materials, processes, assemblies, or sub-assemblies. Serve as subject matter expert for CMM Operations and Programming. Use a variety of precision measuring equipment. Refer deviations from specifications to appropriate personnel. Maintain records pertinent to function.
Responsibilities
- Responsible to evaluate the quality of parts being manufactured
- Perform hands-on inspections of manufactured and purchased parts
- Calibrate manual inspection tools and equipment – maintain calibration database.
- Read blueprints, welding symbols and engineering drawings and compare against completed parts to assure manufacturing accuracy
- Perform mathematics to determine why products do not conform to standards
- Recommend drawing changes to engineers for simplicity or ease of understanding
- Evaluate extent of product non-conformances and determine disposition of purchased product, work in process and finished goods.
- Communicate and follow up with suppliers regarding inspection processes
- Provide input in decisions on programming, equipment and software and act as subject matter expert for the CMM
- Using advanced knowledge and application of CMM Programming skills will create CMM programs for new and existing parts
- Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting on the CMM and work with vendors to resolve CMM mechanical or software problems
- Provide support for New Product Development and Tool Design with respect to programming and fixture design for new parts
- Conduct full layout inspection for PPAPs / RPAPs / ISIRs
- Provide training on CMM Operation and Programming as needed
- Experience with Dimensional Measuring Tools such as Micrometers, Calipers, Height and Radius Gages, Pin Gages, Thread Gages, Plug Gages, and Optical Comparator
- Set priorities for other techs as needed
- Must be hands on and proactive about correcting problems
Qualifications
- Technical certificate or associate degree is preferred. Minimum 5 years inspection experience in a manufacturing environment and minimum 5 years CMM experience, including programming, is required.
- Experience with arm style CMM is preferred as well as PC-Dmis and/or Polyworks softwares.
- Experience with ISO 9001, calibration and non-conformance systems is required. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Read, analyze, and interpret a variety of information, such as technical procedures, business correspondence, and governmental regulations furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Create business-level written correspondence and verbally present information to internal and external customers.
Requires job related software skills including MS Office and Adobe Acrobat and the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Environment is a modern production facility with heat and air conditioning.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around, sit, stand, use hands to finger, handle, and touch; reach above shoulders and talk and hear.
- The employee is required to operate pallet jack, hoist, and hand tools.
- The employee is required to lift up to 25 pounds regularly; up to 50 pounds occasionally, with higher weights requiring assistance
