Overview:To execute assigned projects to ensure successful and timely completion with a commitment to improving communities through multimodal transportation planning, making it easier, safer, more efficient, and attractive to walk, bike, and use transit and emerging mobility options. Projects involve elements such as Complete Streets design, Vision Zero, First/Last mile connections to transit, Transportation Demand Management, transit service planning, parking studies, pedestrian and bicycle facilities for all ages, environmental sustainability, landscape architecture, and community planning.
Responsibilities:Leadership and Direction
- Perform work under very limited supervision requiring the need to exercise independent judgement and discretion on a regular or frequent basis.
- Provide oversight and direction for one or more specific business processes or functions.
- Position will include direct supervisory responsibility of staff to include hiring decisions, direction and delegation of work assignments, performance and evaluation, training and development, employee relations and disciplinary issues, compensation, and termination decisions. Supervise the work of all project personnel to ensure that it meets the highest professional standards.
- Provide mentorship through counsel, guidance, and knowledge to junior staff as a key component to the development of future Project and Senior Project Managers.
- Manage all aspects of assigned projects including budgeting, staffing and delegation, scheduling, and client management.
At the Operational and Company Level
- Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
- Supervise and monitor client relationship strategies, acting as primary client contact on assigned projects and maintaining client satisfaction.
- Lead regular project staff meetings.
- Play an integral role in working with public sector clients and engaging with the public.
- Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships
Do the Work
- Work with clients, staff, agency personnel, and others to successfully complete transportation planning projects.
- Prepare proposals and lead business development activities.
- Perform project development for complex projects, including finalizing scope of projects, preparing project budgets and cost estimates.
- Prepare and direct preparation of designs, specification, plans, estimates and reports for projects.
- Manage the financial performance of projects including budgeting, reviewing job cost sheets, preparing monthly billings, and minimizing/avoiding project write-offs, and assuring collection of client account receivables. Ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation.
- Maintain healthy client relationships and ensure client satisfaction and use solid operational insight for driving projects and executing deliverables.
- Prepare proposals and manage projects.
- Understand client objectives and help them reach a successful outcome.

- Solid understanding of the integration of engineering, planning, street design, and bicycle and pedestrian oriented planning.
- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or related discipline required.
- Master's Degree in City/Urban/Regional/Community Planning, Urban Design, Architectural Design, Landscape Architecture, or related discipline from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Minimum ten (10) years of professional experience in transportation or community planning, to include project management experience.
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or another applicable professional certification/license preferred.
- Experience working with municipalities, DOT, MPOs/RPOs, County Planning agencies, transit authorities, and transportation funding programs required.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory policies of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) project review processes and related federal and state environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong understanding of 3D modeling programs and graphic design software applications in GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AutoCAD, and/or other digital design tools required.
- Valid state driver's license and ability to successfully pass a motor vehicle check or reliable form of transportation to/from the office and/or project site strongly preferred.
- Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
- Mobility around an office environment.
- Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Occasional outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
- Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
- Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
