We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with expertise to lead complex transportation projects and drive strategic goals related to public infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities
Project Leadership & Technical Expertise:
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams in delivering high-quality transportation solutions that align with Caltrans planning processes (e.g., PID, PA&ED), standards (LAPM), permits (e.g., DEER), procedures (e.g., PSR/PR, GAD), and funding requirements (e.g., E-76).
- Oversee all phases of project delivery, from conceptual design through construction, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and schedule.
- Utilize subject matter expertise in transportation engineering to ensure technical excellence in areas such as roadway design, traffic operations, stormwater management, and environmental compliance.
Client Services & Business Development:
- Build and strengthen long-term relationships with key public agency clients, including self-help counties and regional transportation authorities, who require Caltrans approvals for their projects.
- Identify new business opportunities and actively contribute to proposals and project pursuits that align with our strategic growth objectives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing expert guidance on navigating complex regulatory processes and securing project approvals.
Team Development & Leadership:
- Mentor and develop project team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
- Conduct skills assessments and alignment gap analyses to ensure the team is equipped with the right expertise to meet project demands and strategic goals.
- Champion leadership development and training programs within the transportation group, empowering future leaders to thrive in a dynamic project environment.
Strategic Initiatives & Firm Leadership:
- Play a central role in firm-wide workshops and strategy sessions aimed at unifying our transportation services, enhancing collaboration, and identifying market expansion opportunities.
- Contribute to shaping our long-term vision for transportation services, aligning team efforts with the broader goals of BKF’s leadership and land development teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience managing complex transportation projects, with a proven track record of technical excellence and client satisfaction.
- Extensive experience with projects requiring Caltrans approvals and processes is highly desired.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, drive business growth, and maintain client relationships.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a talent for simplifying complex issues for clients and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in project management software and an ability to adapt to new technology tools.
- Assist with special projects as needed
- Travel between BKF offices and other off-site locations may be required.
- Valid California Drivers License

Pay
The typical base salary range for this position is $154,600 - $187,000 annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
Physical Demands
Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions
Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
