This position, reporting to Senior Director of Investment Operations, will play a key role in CIM's multi-year infrastructure upgrade project. This project is designed to implement foundational technology and business process upgrades necessary for long-term AUM growth: modern data management and warehousing, upgraded accounting systems, improved banking and reporting capabilities, new solutions for managing derivatives, pricing and total return, and improved operational processes that support the execution of Cigna's investment strategy while enhancing operational effectiveness to meet business growth.
The project is expected to optimize business performance by enhancing the alignment between operations and business processes, organization architecture and information technology, building and sustaining a process-managed operations organization. This position works closely with business partners across CIM, Cigna and externally, including investment, operations, legal, finance, accounting, IT, and compliance functions and external partners such as service providers, consultants, regulators, and outside counsel to drive efficient and timely execution of project goals.
Role
The Senior Project Manager plays a contributor role as part of the CIM Transformational Roadmap, team in terms of its governance structure, team processes, and business information to support all project work related to the IT and Business initiatives. This person aligns strategic goals and objectives with decisions regarding key business and IT initiatives, as they impact Cigna Investment Management (people, processes and systems). The primary focus of the heavy execution based role is project work in the form of assisting project teams to complete business requirements, project plans, impact assessments and ongoing planning and analysis work and understanding the broader end to end focus of inputs and outputs to and from E2E CIM perspective.
The role lead reports into CIM Program Roadmap owners and works closely with the Operational Leaders, IT Delivery Team, to align CIM infrastructure (system) solutions with business needs.
Key role in CIM's Transformational Roadmap project:
- Assist with Governance implementation
- Work closely with Vendor(s), consultants and internal and external IT teams on project implementation
- Development of presentations and materials to communicate project goals, status and critical issues to stakeholders including governance committees, project participants, the broader CIM team and senior and executive management
- Assist with coordination and development of PI planning
- Potential to work on operational efficiencies and functions by identifying process and organizational improvements and driving implementation through effective program leadership
- Contributes to change management and process improvements needed to successfully execute project initiatives
- Develops and maintains knowledge of CIM's investment and operational functions, structure and business practices
- Works closely with roadmap program manager on strategic planning activities and projects to enhance operational effectiveness and investment results
- Work with business analysts, system analysts and other key project people in developing requirements for projects.
- Work with project team in the Planning sessions required to support the overall roadmap
- Develop the tactical and strategic goals of CIM that provide traceability through the organization and are mapped to metrics that provide ongoing governance.
Skills and Qualifications
- General knowledge of investment banking not required, but would be highly valued in a candidate
- BS in Business, Finance or similar relevant field
- Agile knowledge/experienced not a requirement but valued
- Experience, including program and project management experience for complex technology and operational improvement initiatives
- Able to navigate a complex environment and comfortable working with ambiguous requirements
- Strong financial acumen and deep operational expertise
- The ability to assimilate and correlate disconnected documentation, and articulate their collective relevance to the organization and to project teams
- A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance
- The ability to recognize structural issues within the organization, functional interdependencies and cross-team redundancies
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations
- The ability to act as liaison conveying information needs of the business to IT and data constraints to the business; applies equal conveyance regarding business strategy and IT strategy, business processes and work flow automation, business initiatives and IT initiatives
- Team player able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus
- Strong situational analysis and decision-making abilities
