About the Job
DescriptionActs as driver and key contact partner for statistical aspects on either the (i) methodological, or (ii) the therapeutic area (TA), level. Plans, ensures, and supports quantitative decision making by means of predictive and prescriptive analytics leading to inference and quantification of evidence. Drives and supports key statistical areas like Go-NoGo decision making, dose finding, machine learning and artificial intelligence applications for clinical development purposes. Drives and supports development of methodology and software tools related to these aspects. Supports the clinical research development process; either (Methodology Path)through the provision of advanced expertise and consulting in statistical methodology, or (Therapeutic Area Path) through the provision of advanced expertise and consulting in TA specific statistical aspects, or (Project/Asset Path) as a BDS Product Owner on the level of projects/assets. Represent BDS up to the therapeutic area level regarding statistics related aspects. This includes accountability for projects developing statistical-methodological expertise for the TA or project/asset level. Represents BI in external communications and collaborations (e.g. agency interaction and across industry-working groups). Provides statistical consultation and mentorship in at least one area.Contributes to achieve strategic goals of BDS through contributing to the goals at project/asset level and/or via contributing to the statistical-methodological development and innovation. Influences the goals of BDS and other units at BI.Ensures cross-functional and team—based working within BDS and with neighboring units at BI. Fulfils tasks of other functions as needed and possible. Contributes to cross-functional- and team-based thinking.Keep abreast of data science and in particular statistics within and outside BI. Turn derived insights into new statistical approaches relevant for clinical development, registration, and marketing of drugs.Conduct and support statistical trainings for statisticians and non-statisticians.Participate in or lead cross-functional BI internal working-groups or lead cross-functional human pharma internal working-groups and drive/plan relevant statistical aspects. Participate in external working groups.Present compelling validated stories regarding complex statistical aspects to BDS colleagues and other professionals within and outside of BI.If applicable supports the clinical drug development process as a BDS Product Owner on the level of projects/assets.RequirementsMaster of Science (MSc) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) from an accredited institution in Statistics or Mathematics or related field (Psychology, Data Science, Finance, etc.).At least five (5) years of experience as a statistician or data scientist. Working experience might be compensated by broad and deep topic-specific knowledge, e.g. with respect to statistical methodology.Statistical experience ideally gained in an international context and in different companies/academic institutions. Ideally, additional qualification and experience in a leadership role.Ability to supervise scientific/technical work.Knowledge of competitor and agency strategies and/or in-depth knowledge regarding statistical approaches developed and implemented by other companies or academia in a global context. In-depth knowledge of own area within BDS and related interfaces within and outside BDS.Advanced knowledge of statistical methodology and clinical development.Proficient in the use of software languages to implement statistical concepts.Mindful of local, global, internal and external cultures to ensure that messages are received positively and effectively. Ability to lead and facilitate meetings required.Evidence of strong teamwork, ideally also in global and remote context. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally (e.g., CROs, experts, management). Ability to pro-actively identify issues and solutions and to interact with internal and external bodies on statistical topics.Language skills: English: fluent (Read/Write/Speak).Know, understand, and implement:
