**POSITION PURPOSE**
The Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time **Senior Post Award and Business Operations Manager.** The Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) is one of seven National Research Centers continuously funded by the National Institutes of health since the 1960s. WaNPRC supports the research enterprise at the University of Washington and partners with others in the Seattle area, across the United States and globally to support their research aimed at improving human health and promoting the highest standards of care, health, well-being and conservation for primates around the world. WaNPRC is a large research organization with 5 units of scientific excellence; neuroscience, infectious disease and translational medicine, gene therapy and regenerative medicine, global conservation, education and outreach and animal and scientific resources. We are seeking a motivated, mission-driven, and talented administrator to guide the Assistant and Associate Directors of the WaNPRC on ensuing the financial stability and vitality of the center and its support of leading edge biomedical and behavioral research.
**POSITION COMPLEXITIES**
The Senior Post Award and Business Operations Manager will manage a significant grant portfolio while simultaneously providing oversight for all WaNPRC post award activities including training and managing two post award Budget Fiscal Analysts. The position will additionally be the liaison between UWFT and WaNPRC representing the needs of the Center and implementing that knowledge into WaNPRC business processes. The position will maintain Workday security roles for the Center and provide Workday training to Center employees based on their roles.

+ Clear and Respectful Communication **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Grant Post Award Management (50%)
+ Manage Animal Resources Division (ARD) P51 complex grant portfolio budgets.
+ Provide monthly P51 financial roll-up report analysis and advice to the Center Assistant Director.
+ Create complex financial PI reports with realized and projected expenses.
+ Determine the needs of individual PI units and customize the PI report projections to meet each unit's unique needs.
+ Provide financial analysis of causative factors in expenditure trends and formulate corrective action recommendations to PIs in monthly meetings.
+ Accommodate ad hoc financial meetings with Assistant Director, Director, and PIs.
+ Proactively anticipate the needs of and engage Associate Director and PIs with financial position matters.
+ Adjust and edit grant financial projections to model future financial needs of grants to inform PIs of strategic possibilities.
+ Conduct financial analysis to identify cost saving opportunities for ARD operations.
+ Plan and budget for future grant awards and collaborate with PIs and Assistant Director or designee to develop comprehensive annual budgets for the Center.
+ Report grant financial status to the Assistant Director or designee via Executive Summary roll-up report.
+ Collaborate on development of PI report templates with Program Operations Specialist to standardize consistent and accurate reporting methods.
+ Twice daily review and approval of Workday grant transactions: requisition, supplier invoice request, expense report - travel and non-travel, miscellaneous payment, and procard verification transactions for grant compliance.
+ Return errant Workday grant transactions to requester with guidance on how to resolve.
+ Create and review Workday payroll accounting adjustments to reflect dynamic nature of grant staffing needs.
+ Create and review Workday journal entries maintaining accurate grant accounting.
+ Ensure overall grant sponsor compliance is maintained according to sponsor, UW Post Award Fiscal Compliance and UW Internal Audit criteria.
+ Investigate and resolve post award grant management problems for staff.
+ Maintain, supervise and distribute Employee Effort Certification (ECC) reports to staff and PIs for both Effort Statements and Project Statements to ensure grant payroll compliance is maintained.
+ Coordinate annual P51 grant closeout events.
+ Oversee establishment of signature cards that delegate PI authority to staff.
+ Stay current on grant news by attending MRAM, RAPN, GCA, OSP, Post Award Fiscal Compliance meetings.
+ Develop and implement effective communication of post award activities through daily/weekly meetings with research administration staff.
+ Navigate SAGE, Award Portal, Workday Finance, Workday HCM, ECC, MyFD to provide grant support for PIs.
+ Establish and maintain subawards with OSP, GCA, and subaward recipients.
+ Prioritize work depending on developing circumstances and competing deadlines.
+ Train and manage appropriate personnel BFA level employees to carry out post award reporting and compliance tasks.Business Operations Management (25%)
+ Attend UW business operations meetings (Finance, UWFT, Procurement, Travel, UWIT, ISC, HR, Procurement, AP, etc) and accommodate WaNPRC processes with new institutional knowledge.
+ Serve as liaison between WaNPRC and UWFT providing solutions to Workday changes and workflow barriers.
+ Participate in on-demand UWFT workgroups representing the needs of WaNPRC.
+ Establish and review WaNPRC business operations SOPs and how-to guides maintaining alignment with State and UW policies and procedures.
+ Exercise independent judgement and flexible decision making to adapt and maintain efficient financial operations of the Center based on Workday change impacts.
+ Provide annual analysis and data entry in Workday Adaptive for WaNPRC financial planning.
+ Manage weekly Workday reports to inform timely receipt and payment of supplier invoices.
+ Develop and implement effective communication of business operations activities through meetings with stakeholder units.
+ Work with leadership to create efficient best practice processes.
+ Independently research problems and resolve issues timely and professionally.
+ Use independent judgement to escalate complex issues to Director of Finance.
+ Continuously look for process improvements by developing tools, workflows, and policies that support customer service, efficiency, and compliance within UW, State, Federal rules.Administration (25%)
+ Assign and maintain WD HCM security roles.
+ Assign and maintain WD Finance security roles.
+ Manage and supervise two budget fiscal analysts @ 1.0 FTE each by providing oversight, coaching, training and maintaining workload balance for grant post award activities.
+ Provide oversight, coaching, and training for two shipping and receiving employees at 1.0 FTE each for reconciliation and Workday receiving that supports grant compliance
+ Supervise two student employees by providing oversight, coaching, training and maintaining workload balance.
+ Manage Workday HCM reports to review employee costing allocations, end employment dates and earnings and actuals.
+ Mentor and provide grant management training to WaNPRC research administration employees entailing overviews of SAGE, Award Portal, PI Report creation and interpretation, grant rules and regulations, problem management and resolution.
+ Provide grant management training to ARD staff to maintain expenditure compliance.
+ Establish and review payroll costing allocations and salary over the cap suballocations in Workday when new awards arrive and for staffing turnover and restructuring prior to payroll cutoff deadlines.
+ Provide Workday Finance & HCM training and support to WaNPRC employees to accurately enter and revise data in the various modules.
+ Assist in staff recruiting, hiring, conducting performance evaluations.
+ Evaluate appropriate staffing levels with Assistant Director for changing administrative environment.
+ Maintain funding worktag distribution list for workload distribution of research administration.
+ Coordinate staffing changes and needs with HR and WaNPRC Training and Orientation Coordinator
+ Investigate payroll problems and coordinate with WaNPRC Payroll Coordinator
+ Design, manage and implement an organization structure and workflow for the research administration unit
+ Establish consistent processes to ensure Compliance & minimize audit risksSupervisory Responsibilities

+ A Bachelor's Degree with major study in accounting, business administration, or related field and two years of experience performing fiscal analysis, planning, and reporting, or equivalent combination of education/experience. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and Google apps.
+ Experience and knowledge must be at an appropriate level to develop applications that will enhance service and products to WaNPRC customers, primarily research faculty.
+ Demonstrated ability to develop complex financial spreadsheets (Excel).
+ Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills; demonstrated ability to work and communicate courteously and effectively with faculty, staff, and individuals from diverse cultural/ethnic/academic backgrounds.
+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
+ Proven ability to effectively plan, multitask, and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines. Must have the ability to self-direct.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and strong orientation toward providing excellent customer service.
+ Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
+ Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or other related academic discipline AND 3 years experience to include program administration in an academic research environment, including UW online financial systems, grant submission systems, Enterprise Data Warehouse.
+ Familiarity and understanding of University of Washington fiscal policies and procedures.
+ In-depth knowledge of the UW systems including Workday, SAGE, eFECS, GCCRs, BI Portal, etc.
+ Hands-on pre-and post-award grants experience.
+ Experience working with UW faculty and staff to resolve accounting and/or payroll problems.
