The Senior Planner/Buyer is responsible for the procurement of Raw Materials and/or Packaging Components, in accordance with lean principles, for the Process/Product Centered Organization. They also serve as primary contact between the plant and its raw material and component suppliers, dealing with supplier issues and monitoring supplier on time delivery.
This role also works as team member within the Internal Value Chain Team. The team makes decisions about how the work is accomplished while adhering to Operation Methods Sheets, Good Manufacturing Practices, Safety Procedure and Lean "Rules," and established inventory policies and or targets. The Senior Planner/Buyer will develop strategies to ensure that obsolescence is kept to a minimal. They will be an active member and/or can lead the MRB (Material Review Board) process. They also will lead the planning functions of the designated area and act as an active team member, accountable for the customer service of the product assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure raw material or packaging components in accordance with Lean principles.
- Validate and process requisitions into purchase orders thru the ERP system.
- Place purchase orders to cover production requirements.
- Ensure purchase orders are received on time and purchase orders quantities received are updated in the system to have accurate information.
- Ensure safety stock inventories are maintained in accordance to the supply chain strategies.
- Follow-up with QA to ensure materials are approved when needed for production.
- Issue material disposal inventory form (MDA) for rejected raw materials and packaging components.
- Negotiate returns/re-work/re-inspections with suppliers, issue paperwork, and coordinate return to vendor (RTV).
- Monitor supplier performance (delivery and quantity).
- Fully support new product implementation for the common items.
- Review recommended safety stock from Lean production model and check expected stock numbers for reasonability.
- Handle raw materials and packaging components obsolescence while minimizing dollar impact, specifically when obsolescence is related to graphic changes or new raw materials and/or packaging components.
- Purchase additional materials as required for approved supply events.
- Handle Return to Vendors for rejected material.
- Work with various departments within the supply chain but not limited to the daily Gemba Walks to expedite / resolve unforeseen conditions that may delay / alter production / packaging schedules.
- Update process orders at SAP/APO to meet internal and external customer requirements.
- Provide inventory projections and forecasts for materials as required.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's/University degree is required; focused degree preferred in Supply Chain, Engineering, Materials Management, Manufacturing Processes, Pharmaceutical Operations, or Engineering
Required:
- Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience
- Experience Supply Chain, Planning Process, and/or Materials Management
- Strong knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and regulatory compliance
- Proficiency with MS Excel and SAP (or equivalent ERP technology)
- Strong interpersonal and consultative skills and the ability to effectively partner, collaborate, communicate, and influence with and without direct authority
- Experience with one or more of the following processes: procurement/purchasing, master production schedule process, inventory management, scenario analysis, sales and operations planning, and/or Planning Systems (APO/OMP)
- Industry experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical or Biopharmaceutical
- APICS or LEAN Certification
- Requires proficiency in both English and Spanish (oral and written)
- Requires ability to work regular shifts (at least 3 days on-site) and frequently work extended hours, with holidays and weekends required depending on business needs
- May require up to 10% domestic and/or international travel
