Education:
- Paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.
- Waivers of the education requirement can only be approved by the Contracting Officer.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of two years of litigation paralegal experience (trial experience is very helpful).
- At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
- Solid working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
- Proficiency with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
- Hands-on familiarity with various computer applications, including:
- Word processing
- Databases (document review and file management systems)
- Spreadsheets
- Imaging systems
- Hardware systems
- Familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure.
Day-to-day Responsibilities:
- Works under the supervision of a Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor.
- Work products are reviewed prior to submission but are often developed with minimal supervision, following written guidelines.
- Key tasks include:
- Compiling, preparing, and summarizing relevant materials for use in discovery and legal document preparation (motions, briefs, etc.).
- Summarizing depositions and other transcripts.
- Maintaining case files.
- Conducting simple legal research.
- Indexing, tracking, and controlling document discovery (including documents produced and received).
- Indexing and tracking exhibits for depositions and trials.
- Preparing exhibit cross-references.
- Assisting attorneys in the courtroom.
- Reviewing documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.
- Other work tasks may include:
- Compiling documents for FOIA, production requests, and Congressional inquiries.
- Performing moderately complex legal research.
- Synopsizing transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use.
- Reviewing case-related materials, identifying conflicting statements, and drafting preliminary legal memoranda and correspondence.
- Primary contact is with other Contractor staff, with occasional interactions with trial staff.
