Senior Packaging and Retail Designer - KONG Company

We are seeking a highly talented and creative Senior Packaging and Retail Designer with 8+ years of experience in Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG), retail, and the pet industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio showcasing innovative packaging designs, point of purchase displays and signage, that enhance product appeal, consumer navigation, and brand identity. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop packaging solutions that align with marketing strategies and elevate the consumer experience. This role will play a pivotal role in defining, elevating and evolving the KONG brand. The key focus will be creating innovative packaging designs, creative concepts, brand assets, brand style guides, and packaging adaptation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and development of packaging solutions for new and existing pet products, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and market trends.
• Collaborate with marketing, product development, and sales teams to create packaging that effectively communicates brand messaging and consumer benefits.
• Conduct market research to identify trends, consumer preferences, and competitive analysis to inform design decisions.
• Develop prototypes and mock-ups, presenting concepts to stakeholders and incorporating feedback into final designs.
• Create technical specifications and oversee the production process to ensure quality and accuracy of packaging output.
• Stay informed about innovations in packaging materials and sustainable practices to integrate into design projects.
• Mentor and guide junior designers, fostering their professional growth and development.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards regarding packaging safety and sustainability.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, industrial design, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in packaging and retail design, preferably within the consumer-packaged goods or pet product sectors.
• Experience managing and designing for high volume SKU programs with rapid SKU expansion and adaptation.
• Proven track record of successful packaging projects from concept to shelf.
• Strong proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
• Deep understanding of printing processes, packaging materials, and production techniques with proficiency in working with many different substrates.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and strategies clearly.
• Creative problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
• Ability to think strategically and solve complex design problems.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong collaboration, leadership, and time management skills.

Compensation

• From $60,000 annually
• Quarterly profit sharing

• KONG Headquarters - Golden, Colorado
