The Senior Package Designer/Project Lead supports PCI's mission to provide the industry leading experience to clients, developing and commercializing solutions to optimize the delivery of lifesaving medicines and support better health outcomes for patients around the world. Reporting to the Package Design Manager, under limited supervision, Senior Package Designer/Project Lead will work to support the development and launch of new package designs and existing package enhancements. In addition to packaging design activities, the incumbent will have project management responsibilities overseeing the development and commercialization of new designs and optimizing existing packaging; including directly engagement with customers, coordinating with vendors and suppliers to develop/approve packaging components, coordinating with internal stakeholders as well as managing R&D and prototyping activities in the Design Lab. Will oversee all aspects of project execution to ensure successful outcomes and client satisfaction. In addition to primary role for package design/development, the Senior Designer/Project Lead will manage workflows, training and development, and outputs for Package Development interns and maintain reliability of on-site prototyping laboratory, including supplies and maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The essential duties and responsibilities include the following but other duties may be assigned.
1. Uses knowledge base to design, specify and implement new packaging designs. Coordinates design and/or develops packaging to extend customer's product life cycles and/or target marketing objectives.
2. Ensures that new packaging designs, existing package improvements, specifications, and materials will conform to current operating methods and packaging machinery.
3. Oversee all aspects of project execution to ensure successful outcomes and client satisfaction.
4. Uses advanced CAD software to design individual packaging components and/or to create complete packaging systems/solutions.
5. Transfers designs to physical samples using appropriate methods and equipment.
6. Effectively manages Design Lab resources and activities of Package Development co-ops.
7. Uses standard methods and procedures to evaluate package designs. Engages customers to assess current packaging systems capabilities and makes recommendations for optimal solutions.
8. Coordinates packaging tests; monitors results; compiles data, and makes the appropriate recommendations. Tests new packaging and materials to assess machine capability.
9. Evaluates and suggests methods of packaging and shipping design to customers in the most cost effective and secure manner. Continuously analyzes cost reduction opportunities in current package design, materials, and processing.
10. Expected to develop best in class, innovative, patentable package designs; understands current packaging developments in the industry; is aware of the capabilities of the competition and ensures that the packaging design department is positioned to maintain a favorable market position.
11. Works closely in collaboration with Sales/Marketing, Estimation, Purchasing, Graphics, Project Management/Operations and Engineering in meeting key project deadlines and deliverables.
12. Supporting internal corporate activities and strategic programs as assigned.
13. Is expected to achieve Subject Matter Expert status in multiple Package Design related topics.
14. May provide training to new employees as needed on multiple Package Design related SME topics.
15. This position may require overtime and/or weekend work.
16. Knowledge of and adherence to all PCI, cGMP, and GCP policies, procedures, rules.

Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or 7-10 years related experience and/or training.
- Basic Mathematical Skills
- Advanced Computer Skills: Ability to perform the most complex computer tasks and operate various computer programs.
- Full Professional Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.
- High Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where there is only limited standardization. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions that may be provided in various forms.
- High Standard of Report Writing
- It is expected Sr. Designer would have completed advanced training for CAD based design software (Solidworks & ArtiosCAD) as well as experience and proficiency in graphic design and photo editing software such as the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of packaging programs including production function and capability. Persons must be able to unassisted implement a packaging concept from initial model to delivered production component while exploring and resolving manufacturing conflicts.
- Knowledge of industry performance test standards. (16CFR, BS-EN-ISO, ASTM, ISTA)
