We are seeking a motivated Senior Network Architect to address the nation’s critical networking challenges. By joining our dynamic team, you will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams focusing on wired and wireless network design and architecture challenges in sophisticated and critical systems supporting our government and military sponsors. As a Senior Network Architect, you will...
- Lead the research, development and implementation of modernized and innovative networking solutions to support national security.
- Lead prototyping and development of network architecture, integration, and testing in operationally realistic environments, working closely with sponsors to ensure mission success.
- Detail work in technical reports and memoranda and present outcomes to sponsors and the technical community.
- Provide mentorship to support early career staff growth and development.
- Participate in standards bodies or other external communities and societies.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in information technology or science, computer science, electrical or computer engineering, or another related technical field.
- Have at least ten years of relevant experience in network engineering.
- Have knowledge of, and experience with the data, network and transport layers of communication or networking systems, IPV4/6, TCP and other emerging protocols.
- Have expertise with several development and networking tools and technologies such as Linux, C/C++, Python, Java, Wireshark, Network Virtualization, and SD-WANs.
- Are familiar with foundational computer networking technology as well as key inter-networking and network security protocols at Layers 2, 3, and 4.
- Are willing and able to travel periodically, up to 10%.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
- Possess a Master's degree or PhD in information technology or science, computer science, electrical or computer engineering, or another related technical field.
- Have experience with protocols at Layer 5+ and are able to understand how lower layers affect their performance.
- Have demonstrated experience in the development of hardware and/or software for networked systems.
- Hold certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CompTIA, or related certifications.
- Have a deep understanding of US government and military communication systems.
- Have experience with project and/or technical management of hardware, software, or systems integration teams.
- Have experience in applying Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence techniques to networking problems.
- Hold an active Top Secret security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. $90,000 Annually
Maximum Rate
$330,000 Annually
