Job DescriptionThe role of the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is pivotal, embodying a specialized, field-oriented expertise in the realm of anti-arrhythmia treatments for self-administration outside of the emergency department or hospital setting for patients with acute episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) and atrial fibrillation (AFib), as well as other episodic cardiovascular conditions.
Adhering rigorously to regulatory and corporate directives, the MSL will adeptly foster and nurture scientific partnerships within the relevant scientific communities. This pivotal role entails engaging with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and healthcare practitioners (HCPs) at local, regional, and national levels.
The MSL is part of a regional therapeutic area MSL team within Field Based Medicine (FBM). The focus of this role is field based scientific exchange (SE), for which the MSL will leverage their scientific background, industry knowledge, and business acumen to function as a scientific resource to key opinion leaders (KOLs), while gathering insights that inform Scientific Objectives (SOs) and strategic decision making by Medicine. Within their territory, MSLs are responsible for establishing, cultivating, and maintaining relationships with KOLs. Further, the MSL functions as an extension of the medical information group to provide product and pipeline therapeutic area expertise to KOLs and HCPs, and as a scientific expert to internal stakeholders within Medicine and Commercial groups. The MSL is a broadly collaborative member, who is expected to communicate seamlessly with other members of the field-based organization and perform all activities in a compliant manner. In addition, the MSL will have responsibility for select Congresses, including Congress planning, attending sessions, managing the medical information booth (MIB), KOL engagements, hosting debriefs, and providing an executive summary to the appropriate members of the leadership team. The MSL may participate in disease education activities, as well as be responsible for providing internal and external scientific training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Function as the EVERSANA Medical Deployment primary point of contact in the field with reporting responsibilities to the Senior Director, Medical Excellence and Field-Based Medicine
- Serve as preceptor to other MSLs
- Support internal medical affairs initiatives as appropriate
- Be solidly versed in the clinical data such that the full range of innovative science, clinical, outcome, economic and value aspects of the company’s products can be appreciated by the external stakeholder
- Conduct pre-launch KOL profiling efforts to enhance depth of product/disease/scientific knowledge. Facilitate top account/institution profiling efforts to enhance understanding of patient care pathways
- Develop and track key opinion leader (KOL) engagement plans - identify, develop, and maintain long-term collaborative relationships with KOLs within assigned region
- Develop a strong understanding of territory specific healthcare systems and clinical practices related to patient care, disease management, treatment protocols, and research interests
- Proactively conduct scientific exchange with KOLs to support the SOs and document scientific insights within appropriate system(s), communicating insights to appropriate internal stakeholders, as required. Identify changes in the healthcare landscape and trends impacting delivery within the territory (i.e., new stakeholders impacting the delivery of or access to care)
- Function as a scientific resource to KOLs and HCPs to reactively answer specific questions on disease state topics and company compounds through scientific exchange
- Function as a scientific resource at payer accounts and integrated delivery networks when requested
- Provide disease state education on topics related to SOs as appropriate
- Collaborate across all functions in a seamless, efficient, and compliant manner including, but not limited to:
- Collaborate to provide field based scientific expertise for key accounts, as required
- Identify and learn about new and evolving customers and the changing medical needs of such customers
- Collaborate with Commercial personnel, as appropriate and in a compliant manner, to provide scientific support for internal and external activities where there is a defined and appropriate scientific role for FBM
- Collaborate with Medical and Clinical functions, to provide scientific support to current and potential study investigators and to communicate scientific insights
- Support identification and assist with development of scientific materials, as directed, required to effectively conduct scientific exchange
- Support identification of training needs to effectively engage in scientific exchange
- Facilitate logistical communications between the company and HCPs regarding Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS), External Collaborative Research (ECR), company study contracts, etc., as requested
- Provide additional scientific support for Medicine and Scientific Affairs activities which may include but are not limited to support for scientific congresses and medical information
- Adhere to corporate SOPs and ensure vigilant compliance with relevant legal and regulatory guidelines governing scientific interactions with physicians and healthcare professionals across all activities, including those related to clinical trials, scientific interactions with internal and external groups, and responses to unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information
- Willingness to contribute to the achievement of organizational goals beyond the borders of a geographic territory
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Advanced science / clinical degree (PharmD, M.D., DO, Ph.D.) with one or more (1+) years of relevant clinical or therapeutic experience, or
- Masters level degree in health sciences (e.g., MS, MSN, MPH, MHA) with three or more (3+) years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience, or
- Combined BSc. with a MBA, or BSN with a MBA, and five or more (5+) years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience
- Four or more (4+) years of experience as a MSL with primary emphasis on field based scientific exchange (cardiovascular experience preferred)
- Knowledge of regional specific healthcare systems and clinical practices related to patient care – preferred
- Communication skills which display comfort, agility, and confidence in a variety of situations
