This is a mid-level design engineering position that offers a variety of challenging opportunities in Mechanical Engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity for career advancement:
+ Contribute to design engineering efforts on multi-disciplined project design team and apply mechanical engineering expertise to the design and analysis of equipment, pressure vessels and interfacing systems, controls and structural support elements
+ Prepare or review moderate to complex calculations
+ Review simple mechanical systems / equipment designs, and prepare moderate to complex system / equipment designs
+ Prepare documented design input for drawing production (i.e., P&IDs, machine layouts, general arrangements, etc.); Review design input for simple mechanical systems / equipment. Perform engineering review of drawings
+ Prepare or review equipment specifications; Prepare material specifications
+ Prepare bid evaluations for systems and components. Solicits data from vendors
+ Prepare or review simple reports / studies
+ Develop single-discipline/simple-scope project budgets, schedules, and project work plans; Monitors own work to ensure it is completed within budget and on schedule
+ Use effective written and oral communication skills to convey information to project team members and managers
+ Present written technical information in a clear and concise manner in all deliverables
+ Prepare reports and deliverables that are clearly understood and meet client requirements; Communicate clearly in meetings with client and summarizes meeting notes in a clear and timely manner
+ Communicate with vendors via clearly written and complete specifications, and via bid evaluation activities
+ Identify applicable standards for technical tasks
+ Maintains and utilize a working knowledge of accepted engineering design standards and practices in the execution of design work that will meet the client's needs and conform to company standards; Ensure conformance to standard methods of analysis, evaluation of results, design procedures, and presentations of conclusions and recommendations
+ Monitor the work of assigned staff on technical matters pertinent to project assignments; Maintain assigned tasks within schedule and budget to fit the needs of the projects
+ Attend project meetings and perform field walkdowns
+ May mentor engineers new to the firm
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.
Essential skills and experience:
+ BSME or MSME degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (PE desired but not required)
+ Five or more years of progressive responsible experience in mechanical engineering in a nuclear environment (DOE preferred, commercial nuclear power, U.S. Navy or related support industries considered)
+ Experience with producing engineering designs and analysis for piping, HVAC, or radioactive material handling systems; Experience with more than one type of system is a plus
+ Experience with ASME B31 and/or AG-1 and N509/510 codes
+ Proficiency in computational engineering analysis software such as ANSYS, AutoPIPE, AFT Fathom, Arrow, Impulse, etc., or similar
+ Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
Valued but not required skills and experience:
+ Field engineering and construction experience is a plus
+ Hanford Tank Farm and/or National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories design experience
+ Experience with specialty equipment (e.g., gloveboxes, pressure vessels, fume hoods, etc.) design and analysis a must; Similar project experience will be considered
+ Experience using 3D CAD modeling software such as Inventor or Solidworks

$101,000 - $120,000

About This Business Unit
Sargent & Lundy's Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories and sites. What does this mean? You can be a part of multi-discipline design teams supporting projects cleaning up the environmental damage associated with the legacy nuclear weapons production complex and/or preserving our country's nuclear deterrent. Sargent & Lundy's personnel design facilities, systems, and equipment that treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear material. Our Government Services Group, one of our five (5) market focused business units, has opportunities for engineering professionals in our mechanical engineering groups. These groups work with other engineering disciplines on engaging and challenging projects with a wide variety of scope, including facility modifications and installations, underground nuclear waste storage tank waste retrieval and treatment systems, unique skid-mounted equipment designs, pumps and piping systems, and building HVAC designs. Additionally, we provide the design of special purpose gloveboxes and the associated controls and auxiliary systems, precision furnaces, hot cells, custom pressure vessels and other one-of-a kind equipment.
