Astroscale U.S. Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in our Denver, Colorado location. In this role you will work on mechanical design concepts, systems, and models. Your designs will ensure that our servicing solutions deliver our vision of a sustainable space environment.
- Develop creative mechanical design concepts to deliver on-orbit servicing solutions
- Perform structural design and configuration tasks on a range of items including spacecraft structures, ground support equipment, deployable structures, and servicing interfaces
- Develop structural models in support of mechanical design performance predictions
- Understand related system requirements and interfaces for hardware integration
- Lead the development and execution of functional testing of prototype systems to inform design improvement iterations
- Support structural qualification testing on spacecraft systems and components including test design, test conduct, and operating interface equipment for unit under test
- Produce part and assembly drawings for manufacturing and interfacing with manufacturers
- Apply technical knowledge to analyze, investigate, and solve engineering problems
- Collaborate with customer and supplier staff, and staff from other parts of Astroscale
- Provide mentorship to other mechanical engineers and the broader Astroscale team
- Communicate major risks, discissions, and opportunities to program and company leadership.
- Ability to design, develop, implement, and test structural systems and/or mechanism designs for satellites
- Proficiency with computer aided design tools, such as SolidWorks
- Proficiency with Classical Analysis Techniques: Ability to utilize standard calculation techniques to validate FE predictions and testing results
- Experience with mechanical analysis tools such as Ansys and Thermal Desktop
- Hands-on experience with prototype hardware fabrication, assembly, and testing
- Demonstrate collaborative communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to oversee and manage a small team of engineers and comfortable with tasking and performance management
- Experienced professional with 10 or more years of experience in mechanical design, development, and test.
- Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or PhD in science, technology, engineering or math, or equivalent experience.

Salary range: $135k-170k. The salary range represents the low and high end of the Astroscale U.S. Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, knowledge, and ability as applicable to the role.
