About the Job
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design and development of ground support systems and aircraft support equipment, while ensuring the accuracy of bills of materials and technical drawings. This role reports directly to the Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate customer requirements, mechanical systems, and products through research, design, and application of mechanical principles, including mechanics, hydraulics, and materials.
- Identify and recommend strategies for product cost reductions.
- Convert existing 2D AutoCAD and PDF data into 3D models using SolidWorks.
- Design and modify axle systems using SolidWorks.
- Develop and revise trailer, dolly, and sling designs in SolidWorks.
- Enter and maintain accurate bill of material data in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
- Collaborate with sales, manufacturing, purchasing, and business development teams to ensure project alignment.
- Communicate directly with customers to gather requirements and provide updates.
- Contribute to new product development, including concept creation, prototyping, and first article builds.
- Provide engineering support across the organization as needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned projects and tasks.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or BSMET (required)
- Master’s degree in Engineering (preferred)
Experience:
- 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (required)
- 10+ years of experience (preferred)
Skills and Expertise:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, across all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in ERP systems.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings, weld procedures, and material specifications.
- Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks (or similar 3D modeling software), and FEA tools such as ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
- Automotive industry experience (a plus but not required).
- Strong technical aptitude with an enthusiastic, solution-focused attitude.
