Description
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for concepting, designing, and verifying electro-mechanical actuators and components, while working closely with a fast-paced, agile team that strives to produce high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs.
Responsibilities
- Design of electro-mechanical actuators such as solar array drive actuators, reaction wheels, etc.
- Drive build and assembly processes for development and flight articles
Test actuators at both component and system levels to validate and characterize design intent and requirements - Perform analyses to support design including hand calculations, finite element analysis, and kinematic analysis
- Source commercial components to support design as required
- Produce detailed engineering drawings with required specifications for manufacturing
- Work with internal manufacturing group and external suppliers to produce designs
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design
- A strong knowledge of metallics, coatings, bearings, seals, and mechanical hardware
- Demonstrated ability to apply dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools
- Self-driven and able to lead projects from cradle to production
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across different teams
- Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Creative design solutions to complex problems
- Ability to work with and manage large and complex assemblies
- Experience with satellite actuator design or rotating devices
- Experience with testing actuators for development, flight qualification, and flight verification
- Experience with Siemens NX
- Experience with creation of actuator models in NASTRAN
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment

- Flexible schedule and willing to travel as needed

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
