About the Job
In support of our client, a global automotive OEM, we are currently seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to support facility expansion projects and ongoing facilities modifications. This program-based assignment will be located at our client's facility in Smyrna, Tennessee and will work directly with our client's Facility Engineering and Project Management team and vendors to provide leadership and administration for various projects. The individual we seek will have an Associate’s of Science degree in Mechanical Design or Engineering or equivalent with experience in the design and construction of industrial facilities. Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple projects from design through installation is essential.
JOB DETAILS
- Prepares drawings in accordance with standard technical specifications and assists in design development of mechanical and electrical industrial facilities systems, that range from moderate to complex in nature.
- Must have thorough knowledge AutoCAD and file storage systems, as well as ability to edit manual drawings.
- Working effectively in the manufacturing environment collecting data, developing, and implementing design solutions, creating specification, and requisitions for contracted services.
- Coordinating outside contracted support services and maintaining effective working relationships with Operations, Maintenance, and Safety personnel.
- Applies basic engineering principles in the area of discipline during the development of design solutions.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Associates degree in a related discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience as determined by department manager.
- 5 or more years design or drafting experience or equivalent as determined by department management.
- Applies knowledge and skills to complex problems, coordinates work beyond own area of expertise.
- Advanced knowledge of discipline specific principles, standards and codes related to manufacturing, equipment and health and safety.
- Advanced knowledge of layout drafting, design concepts, drawing, plans and diagrams.
- Ability to project manage small scale projects, controlling cost, schedule, and the overall performance of the design solution.
- Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing processes; makes recommendations to improve standard procedures.
- May be required to act as a team leader within own area or department; does not supervise.
- Provides guidance to others and coordinates the work of teams.
- Acts as a facilitator to resolve conflicts within a team.

- Some travel required.
