The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a critical role at ONICON and Air Monitor. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, creating, and testing mechanical products and product changes for our new and existing products. This job is an ONSITE POSITION at our Largo, FL facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, create, and maintain new and existing models and drawings for electro-mechanical designs including enclosures, sensors, and flow bodies.
- Develop and ideate new electro-mechanical designs.
- Establish and implement best practices within the mechanical group.
- Mentor other mechanical engineers in good design practices.
Other Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Establish, revise, and maintain quality and consistency standards for mechanical documentation.
- Use finite element analysis to evaluate the suitability of a design (fluid dynamics, stress strain, vibration, and electromagnetic).
- Work closely with Product Management, Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering when designing or making changes to designs.
- Lead cost reduction efforts focusing on part cost, mechanical labor, and built-in quality improvements.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years' experience in the development electro-mechanical products
- Experience with a variety of metal and plastic fabrication techniques
- Analytical mechanical design and analysis expertise
- Parametric modeling and 3D design
- Good written and communication skills with ability to work in a strong team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years of relative experience with 3+ years in a lead role
- Experience analyzing stress, thermal and fluid flow using CFD and FEA.
- Experience setting up a manufacturing environment including designing tooling and creating work instructions
- Experience developing product within a disciplined NPD process
- Experience working with a multidisciplinary team including product managers, electrical engineers, firmware engineers, manufacturing engineers, quality, and technicians.
- Experience with calibration systems per ISO 17025
- Experience setting up design of experiments, test plans and reports, setting up effective development and production verification testing.
- Experience with develop precision measurement instrumentation
- Experience with a Product Data Management system (SolidWorks PDM preferred)
- Proficient in creating mechanical drawings with an emphasis on Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
