About the Job:
Peak Energy is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineerto own the mechanical design of our utility scale sodium-ion energy storage systems (ESS). The Senior Mechanical Design Engineerwill be responsible formechanical system and component designs and will work with other design, analysis, manufacturing and program teams both at the high levelin design direction and deep in the engineering implementation. This person is hands-on, highly motivated and autonomous.
Responsibilities:
- Strong ownership in design of Peak's High Voltage ESS mechanical systems from architecture through continuous improvement
- Define product design direction by meticulously exploring broadly and deeply, while trading and communicating design decisions
- Focus on design areas of need, which may include: battery module, HVDC chain, thermal systems integration, electronics module integration and LV harnessing.
- Develop and manage sub-system and component requirements
- Interface tightly with partners such as thermal and structural analysts and other design functions to inform design decisions
- Drive and participate in a culture of rapid protoyping and testing
- Support validation of Peak products
- Ensure a smooth transition from maturing product to production-ready

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience working with HV systems
- Strong structural and thermal engineering fundamentals
- Extensive use of commercial CAD and PLM software
- Familiarity with FEA/CFD and other common CAE practices
- Familiarity with high voltage battery system or power electronics design
- Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products
Preferred Qualifications:
- HV Battery architecture development experience
- Battery modeling, simulation and test experience
- Product design experience with high volume automated manufacturing requirements
