System One is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a remote work model, long-term contract opportunity, with our client, based out of Bellevue, WA.
In this role, you will create design solutions for the design development of various reactor structures and components for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. Candidates must have extensive experience in equipment design. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will report to the Reactor Enclosure System Manager. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors.
Responsibilities
- Design of reactor structures and components from requirements through final design.
- Coordinate inputs and requirements from Engineering and Project teams to produce equipment and components design solutions.
- Perform scoping analysis and calculations for design options.
- Interface with the team’s engineering analysis activities.
- Present equipment and components design results for design reviews.
- Assess technical merit of solutions provided by team members, including leading design reviews.
- Interface with junior engineers and subcontractors, providing direction and mentoring.
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
- Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of eight years of equipment / component design experience; relevant M.S. degree credited as two years of experience.
- Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III.
- Experience writing design specifications.
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Experience in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and commercial mechanical stress analysis modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker.
- Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.
- Familiarity with CAD, SolidWorks preferred.
