Title: Mechanical Component Quality Engineer
Location: Reno, NV
Job-Type: FTE/Permanent
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Aligning product quality targets to expected product performance and reliability.
• Overall ownership of products from the mechanical parts quality perspective.
• Generation and execution of the mechanical parts quality plan for new products.
• Coordinates and executes Contract Manufacturer quality audits to ensure agreed quality inspection is being executed and recorded.
• Develops Quality Requirements Specifications for high reliability products produced by Contract Manufacturers.
• Provide critical inputs on inspection methods, instruments used and process choices.
• Participate in DFMEA and DFM activities for products produced at Contract Manufactures.
• Review PFMEA process from a Contract Manufacturer on new and existing products and align it as necessary towards ensuring quality build in production.
• Lead and enforce PPAP and assure tools and processes are effective to support consistent high-quality levels at Contract Manufactures.
• Qualify equipment installation and setup in collaboration with the Contract Manufacturing team.
• Lead and drive all 8D SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Request) activities adhering to required time to closure.
• Participate in all Corrective Action and Preventative Action processes that pertain to manufacturing or material deficiencies.
• Proficient user of Engineering Change Control tools and assures effective implementation of all ECO's affecting products and production processes at Contract Manufactures.
• Coordinate with the engineering design and Manufacturing Engineering teams and testing department (responsibilities may expand to include materials/process evaluation testing).
• Monitor adherence to quality and safety certification standards.
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing GD&T and utilizing it towards quality of custom parts.
• Knowledge of engineering design tools like Solid works, Creo to be able to review a CAD file as needed.
• Knowledge of Casting, Molding, stamping and ability to perform CTQ analysis on them.
• Reviewing mechanical parts drawings and identifying gaps that need to be added to perform the quality inspections on those parts.
• Creating quality documentations and ensuring CM is utilizing it for record keeping
• Develop and own quality performance metrics.
• Procuring quotes and scheduling environmental testing on parts as determined necessary.
• Coordinate with suppliers on parts quality and defect analysis as need arises.
• Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business or Industrial Technology or equivalent experience
• Must have at least 5 years of manufacturing of high reliability electronic, electromechanical or products with a focus on quality management in a contract manufacturing or electromechanical assembly environment.
• Strong experience with solder chemistries/processing, electronics cleaning and cleanliness validation processes, conformal coating and potting.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
• Solid quantitative skill set and the ability to analyze and communicate with well-supported data
• Knowledge of PCB design capability
• An individual critical thinker capable of devising plans and solutions for complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Power electronics, consumer electronics or commercial electronics background preferred
• Experience working with international companies and in a matrix organization
• Proven experience collaborating with multiple sites and functions to drive common solutions
• Prior experience with hardware certification standards (e.g. UL1741)
• Mechanical and thermal analysis
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
• Six Sigma green or black belt preferred.
