Job Summary: As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will be accountable for planning, developing, implementing, and sustaining manufacturing methods, processes, and operations for both new and existing composite aerospace products and assemblies. Your role is pivotal in ensuring optimal utilization of materials, equipment, and personnel to deliver high-quality products that meet customer specifications while minimizing costs.
In the position of Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain methods and operation sequences for the production and fabrication of parts. This involves estimating manufacturing costs, establishing time standards, and recommending tooling and process requirements for new and existing products.
Your responsibilities will extend to acting as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders for the release of new processes. Collaborating with the production lead, you'll play a key role in selecting, developing, and evaluating production personnel to optimize manufacturing operations. Additionally, your role will involve providing advanced technical expertise to integrated product teams, covering technical calculations, design and analysis functions, technical report writing, presentations, and other engineering requirements.
Job Core Responsibilities:
- Assume technical design and engineering responsibilities for identified or assigned program tasks.
- Develop conceptual composite molding and fabrication process flows, generating CAD parts, assemblies, and drawings to support production tooling.
- Design, implement, and review production tooling and fixtures.
- Create production planning in the Made 2 Manage ERP system, including Item Masters, Bills of Materials, Routers, etc.
- Provide technical guidance to lower-level Manufacturing Engineers for work instructions, travelers, designs, material selections, and inspection methods.
- Conduct research and selection of equipment, vendors, and consultants required for task resolution.
- Identify, maintain, and control production processes through Statistical Process Control (SPC) and data analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Offer root cause analysis and corrective action for out-of-control processes, supporting AS9100 and NADCAP requirements.
Job Specifications: Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
Years of Experience: 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with a minimum of 7 years' experience in layup, molding, machining, and inspection of composite materials.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in processing techniques such as compression molding, RTM, autoclave, and out-of-autoclave.
- Familiarity with the AS9100 quality management system.
- Excellent working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) via ASME Y14.5-2018.
- Self-starter with exceptional time management skills.
- U.S. Citizenship or current Green Card status.
- Experience with marketing support and proposal writing.
- Team management skills combined with the ability to work independently.
- Data-driven decision-making ability with limited management support.
- Proficiency in machine shop practices, CNC programming, composite material testing, and inspection methods using CMMs.
- Experience with data acquisition systems.
Preferred Skills:
- 7+ years of aerospace composite molding experience in an engineering role.
- Familiarity with continuous fiber and high-temperature thermoset resin systems.
- Knowledge of NADCAP quality management system requirements for composite molding and bonding.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks 2021, NX, Surfcam, and CATIA).
- Experience with Minitab, Made to Manage, and ply nesting software.
