Key Responsibilities:
Technical Operations/Maintenance
Technical Operations includes the maintenance, and overhaul of our aircraft. This includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.
Job overview and responsibilities
This position will lead a team of engineers and subject matter experts handling a continuous improvement business model and strategy that enables United to provide safe, dependable baggage handling and facility systems in accordance with business requirements, cost savings initiatives and total cost of ownership. This role will be central in representing the facilities organization in the planning and implementation of $1B of baggage handling system investment and ongoing development of building automation systems for hub airport buildings and facilities equipment in accordance with industry best practices, safety, environmental, local, state, and federal regulations.
- Technical specs and modification projects: Leads team in collaborating with internal and external partners to plan, design, and implement new baggage systems, or major baggage handling system upgrades that include mechanical, industrial controls, software, and TSA screening sub systems. Leads team in collaboration with Corp Real Estate, Airport Operations, Digital Technology, and external partners in developing technical specifications for baggage handling and building automation systems investment and modification. Leads engineering team from project concept to commissioning to ensure engineering integrity of new and existing facilities systems for safe, dependable, and ongoing cost-effective operations. Guides design and implementation of equipment and facility modifications to address safety, reliability, and performance issues
- Maintenance support: Leads team in supporting frontline maintenance organizations for unplanned outage events affecting baggage handling operations. Establishes and reviews proactive readiness and response procedures with frontline and partner teams to minimize impact from system outages and/or external impact. Leads teams in root cause analysis, developing and implementing mitigation and improvement action plans
- Preventative maintenance program: Leads the creation, implementation, and ongoing oversight of maintenance programs for baggage handling systems. Guides technical parameters of preventative maintenance programs and maintenance optimization in accordance with manufacture and industry standard processes for baggage handling systems or facilities equipment and infrastructure. Focuses on predictive, preventive maintenance that will increase planned maintenance, reduce unplanned, reactive maintenance, and improve in service time for facilities equipment.
- Maintenance reporting and analysis, predictive, maintenance: Establishes KPIs and is responsible for development of reporting systems for baggage handling systems and airport facility asset performance. Guides the development of maintenance monitoring strategy, systems, and infrastructure to support proactive and predictive maintenance for baggage system and facility assets. Leads facilities reliability programs including collection and reporting of operational data, trends, root cause analysis, and identification of corrective actions to ensure the effectiveness and improvement of maintenance programs
- Maintenance manuals and documentation: Guides development of technical engineering, maintenance, and safety program management, system reliability and life cycle management analysis, and systems training curriculum development
- Leads team and collaborates with partners for innovation and continuous improvement in baggage handling and facility operations

Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Controls, or Digital Technology or 4 years of relevant work experience
- 5+ years of experience working with baggage handling system and/or TSA screening system design and implementation
- 5+ years of experience in building automation controls including connectivity and monitoring of jet bridge assets
- 4+ years of experience leading all aspects of facilities maintenance projects, and/or engineering and technical management
- 4+ years of experience collaborating with large scale critical initiatives and/or process improvement projects/programs
- Experience leading teams in multiple locations
- Ability to build strong internal and external business relationships including management multiple vendors
- Proven capability to influence and lead change
- Planning and communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, organizational management, defining accountability, identifying improvement opportunities
- Advanced skills with productivity and collaboration tools including MS Office Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams etc.
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
- Accountable for consistent and clear communication to team, leadership, and collaborators
- Must be willing and able to travel 30% domestic and international
- Must be willing and able to work a hybrid work schedule and need to be located at one of United's Hub locations
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Controls, Digital Technology, Business or Finance or 6 years relevant work experience
- 5+ years of experience with airport facilities maintenance operations
- Knowledge HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering
- 5+ years of experience in an airline operations including baggage and ramp operations
- 3+ years of experience in digital technology architecture, networking, security, or applications development
- Current leader of maintenance organization supporting airline hub operations
- Experience leading sophisticated matrixed operations, in airport/aviation setting

The base pay range for this role is $124,735.00 to $169,950.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
