Summary:
The Sr. Manager (IT Director) will lead Cloud Engineering in Azure and future state Multi cloud environment (Azure and AWS). In this role, you’ll drive operational technology and lead, inspire, and grow our team to the highest industry standards for delivering IaC, IaaS, CI/CD pipelines, security, and operational processes for our SaaS customers. This position provides a unique opportunity to make a major contribution to a fast-paced, rapidly growing bank. You would be working closely with CloudOps, DevOps, DataOps, NOC, and Tech Support teams as well as peer departments such as Engineering, QA, Product Management, Customer Success teams with focus on automation service release, configuration and data management, proactive monitoring, KPIs, SLAs, reliability and performance tuning. The Sr. Manager (IT Director) will be an experienced and hands-on leader who’s passionate about operational excellence, process improvements, and building a highly efficient DevOps culture. This role will report directly to the SVP of Cloud, Data, and operate across the bank. Responsibilities
· Responsible to work with Enterprise/Solution Architecture to design Cloud based Infrastructure architecture with detailed infrastructure architecture, cloud security, end to end flow & deployment strategy in different environments including DevOps & SecOps pipelines/Monitoring & Observability/SLO’s incorporating Reliability needs of the applications. Represent cloud Engineering team at different architecture working groups.
· Work closely with Cloud Engineering team to develop and implement Infrastructure Build Automation through DevOps & SecOps pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, Reusable Patterns/Templates in Multi cloud platform with Terraform
· Responsible for Cloud Security & Governance in a distributed cloud environment while sharing common service and providing guidance to application and solution architects.
· Leverage direct and indirect relationships to influence and engage peers and senior leaders on First Horizon Bank’ s cloud best practices & use of IaaS/SaaS & PaaS solutions.
· Define and drive the strategy, direction, and execution of our cloud computing initiatives in both private and public cloud.
· Build and lead a high-performing team of cloud experts, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
· Establish and maintain operational standards and processes, Cloud cost management & governance, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
· Develop and maintain relationships with key vendors and partners, ensuring we have access to the latest cloud technologies and services.
· Responsible for design, implementation and deployment of APIs using the latest technologies and best practices. Implement API management using API management software (like APIM, APIC) to include API proxies, mashups, rate limiting, security, analytics, monetization , token management and developer portals.
· Responsible for implementing design patterns for distributed systems, configuring and managing CI/CD pipelines, including designing and deploying applications to run on Kubernetes/AKS. Experience in architecting, installing, implementing, and administering a complete end-to-end Kubernetes infrastructure for a CI/CD pipeline will be preferred.
· Responsible for design and setting the direction of First Horizon Bank’s Cloud & infrastructure foundations operating at massive, global scale in Multi-Cloud / Public cloud environments (Azure/Oracle/GCP/AWS, Primary focus being Azure) integrating with several SaaS providers like Guidewire/Databricks/Dynatrace/Workday/Collibra/Office 365/Zscaler/CyberArk/Confluent/ADO/.
· Have strong working knowledge of foundational infrastructure service engineering and operations like VNET, Subnetting, Network Security Groups, Subscriptions, Resource groups, WAF, Fine Grained access control - IAM, Virtualization, DNS, Networking within cloud & between Cloud providers, Load balancing, Authentication with ADFS, Logging and Tracing, Cloud Cost Management using Cloudability, Governance & usage of Azure managed services, reusable patterns & frameworks, Kubernetes & Containers.
· Lead, manage and set strategic vision for the Cloud Engineering organization with advancing DevOps best practices.
· Drive the mechanisms across the organization for improving automation and systems architecture for our cloud services.
· Drive measurable improvements across Service Level Indicators (SLI), Service Level Objectives (SLO), and Service Level Agreements (SLA).
· Continuously improve, develop, and present metrics related to quality of services, cost efficiency, and performance.
· Drive operational excellence through better documentation, refined workflows, and KPI measurements.
· Continuously improve services delivery and deployment automation processes under CI/CD technology and agile development model.
· Drive cross-functional collaboration with all technical, service, and product planning teams.
· Promote adoption of best practices and new technologies for our SaaS services and support.
· Improve the level of automation to reduce/eliminate human errors in the operational processes.
· Ensure Engineering teams have the proper tooling from SDLC, Product Launch, and for day-to-day Operational needs
· Contribute and drive improvements for our SOC/ISO compliance controls, policies, follow Change Management / Change Controls principals
· Manage and improve our DevOps practices to deliver high quality software/service releases under the Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automated QA testing.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of DevOps engineering experience
· Solid interpersonal skills with proven track record of influencing at all levels
· 12+ years of technology experience with 7+ years’ experience leading DevOps, Build & Release Engineering (BRE) in a SaaS production and development environments
· Experience with Python, Bash shell scripting and automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, ArgoCD, etc.
· 5+ years’ experience on the cloud platform development such as Azure/AWS/OCI
· Experience with Service Management concepts and processes such as Bitbuckert/Github, Incident, Change, Configuration and Release Management
· Must have knowledge of relational and non-relational databases and platforms such as SQL Server, Databricks, RedShift, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Database& Analytics, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL Managed, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
· Software development experience and familiarity with Continuous Delivery & Trunk-Based Development concepts
· Required to have deep understanding of the ecosystem to AKS, includeK8s, Terraform, IAM, EC2, S3, EKS, Lambda, OpenSearch, or related tooling
· Hands on experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, Prometheus, AHM, Graylog, Grafana as well as Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools
Preferred Qualifications
· Preferable to be able to demonstrate experience advancing cloud modernization best practices in areas such as Auto-Scaling, Serverless, and Zero-Downtime Deployments
· Azure or AWS Certifications are preferable and ability to demonstrate how you’ve used them to mentor team members
· Experience leading teams through an Agile transition and establishing best practices across multiple teams
· Preferable to have experience driving improvements with both Engineering tools and ITSM (Information Technology Service Management) platforms
· Experience building a FinOps discipline and driving budgeting, cost reporting and forecasting in a service owner culture
· Experience of working with Java platforms and applications including JBoss, Tomcat, JDK.
· Experience in Platform Management, infrastructure management & design, architectural leadership with experience is building platforms and reusable patterns and frameworks.
· Experience in building foundational infrastructure capabilities like AD/DNS/NTP/IAM/Load Balancing/DevOps & Configuration management.
· Hands on Experience in developing & implementing Infrastructure as code (IaaC), deploying Cloud managed services through IaaC, IaaS, implementing resiliency within & across regions, clustering, building Kubernetes platforms and deploying applications to Kubernetes through pipelines with full automation. (security scanning/logging/tracing/secrets management/connection management/control gates & integration with API gateways/Messaging queues)
· Experience in financial services compliance, regulatory governance, auditing, budgeting & cost management.
· Experience in leading large-scale cloud projects from design to implementation and maintenance, migration.
· Experience in building teams, upskilling, attract, develop, retain, and motivate top-tier talent.
