The Columbus Crew is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician, Facility Operations, that will be responsible for assisting in managing the planning, organization, and execution of maintenance items at Historic Crew Stadium, Lower.com Field, and OhioHealth Performance Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintenance of Facility Infrastructure:
- Perform regular maintenance and repairs on all facility systems, including HVAC, kitchen equipment, electrical, plumbing, field lighting, lift stations and mechanical systems.
- Oversee the maintenance of seating areas, concession stands, restrooms, offices, loading dock equipment and locker rooms.
- Event Preparation and Support:
- Collaborate with event coordinators, managers, directors and food service teams to ensure the venue is ready before events, including kitchen equipment, lighting, power, and other infrastructure.
- Provide support during events, including troubleshooting technical problems with equipment or systems.
- Assist with post-event inspections/tasks, ensuring the venue is in good condition and ready for the next event.
- Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Quickly diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions or system failures, minimizing downtime and disruptions during events.
- Perform corrective repairs on electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pool, hydrotherapy, emergency generators, overhead doors and safety systems.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly, especially during high-profile events or peak periods.
- Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead a team of junior maintenance staff and technicians, providing guidance, training, and mentorship.
- Ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols and company policies.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all maintenance and operational activities comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as venue-specific standards.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and systems to identify potential hazards or maintenance issues.
- Monitor safety during events, ensuring that emergency exits, fire alarms, and other safety equipment are functional.
- Equipment and Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance schedules, repairs, and part replacements.
- Possess the ability to operate power equipment including drain cleaner, drill, saw, oxy-acetylene torch, pipe threader, grinder, sander, and propress.
- Ensure that maintenance tools, spare parts, and equipment are stocked and in working condition.
Required Skills and Experience
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree in Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience in maintenance, with at least 2-3 years in a senior or leadership role.
- Experience in facility or sports venue maintenance is highly preferred.
- Experience with event-driven operations and high-demand, high-traffic environments.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Expertise in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and audiovisual systems.
- Knowledge of sport-specific venue requirements.
- Proficiency with maintenance management software (e.g., CMMS)
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead a team effectively under pressure.
- Ability to work well with other departments, contractors, and vendors.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks
- Comfort working at heights (e.g., ladders, scaffolding) and confined spaces.
- Ability to work in varying environments (indoor/outdoor) and handle exposure to noise, temperature variations, and other venue-specific conditions.
- Certifications:
- OSHA certification 10 & 30 Hour (General Industry or Construction).
- Electrical, mechanical, or HVAC certifications are a plus.
- First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred.
- Work Schedule
- May require flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, particularly during sports seasons and special events.
- On-call availability may be necessary for emergency maintenance.
