About the Role
As the Senior Litigation Counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance on all aspects of the company’s litigation. You will work closely with the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel to manage both internal and external legal resources. Your Role
- Manage Litigation: Handle high-volume consumer and commercial litigation in federal and state courts and in arbitration across the U.S.
- Oversee Outside Counsel: Provide local assistance to outside counsel with litigation matters.
- Dispute Resolution: Resolve consumer and commercial disputes, including negotiating settlements.
- Legal Research: Conduct research to support litigation issues, including federal and state laws such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Truth In Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and laws restricting unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices, repossession laws, and usury laws.
- Process Oversight: Oversee legal department processes for litigation. Draft and edit litigation filings.
- Internal Guidance: Provide legal advice, guidance, and support to internal business units on litigation matters.
- Advise on compliance with consumer protection laws and regulations in litigation matters.
- Identify and recommend steps to contain costs and mitigate risks.
- Mentorship: Coach and mentor Legal Analysts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor or LLB degree.
- Admitted to practice law in South Carolina or another U.S. jurisdiction, with the ability to register as in-house counsel within six months of hire.
- 5+ years of consumer finance litigation experience (credit cards, mortgage loans, auto loans); auto finance experience preferred.
- Skills: Excellent negotiation, communication, and drafting skills.
- Attributes: Highly motivated and energetic individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Willingness and drive to go above expectations to achieve goals. High level of professionalism.
Position Details
- Full-time position: 100% onsite in Spartanburg, SC
- Must be able to commute to the office five days a week.
- Relocation: Open to candidates willing to relocate. Position requires relocation to Spartanburg, SC by the start date.
