Job Summary: Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Senior Lease Accountant to assist their controller on a contract engagement. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of lease accounting principles, particularly ASC 842, and be able to apply this knowledge to manage, track, and report on all lease-related transactions. The Senior Lease Accountant will play a key role in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, managing lease documentation, and supporting financial reporting processes related to leased assets. This role requires the candidate to be on-site at the client's Indianapolis office three days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lease Accounting Compliance: Ensure compliance with ASC 842 by maintaining accurate records for all lease agreements, including operating and finance leases. Oversee the transition from legacy standards to ASC 842, including the initial recognition and ongoing accounting of leases.
- Lease Administration: Review, analyze, and track lease contracts across multiple departments to ensure correct accounting treatment for each lease, including the recognition of right-of-use assets and lease liabilities.
- Journal Entries and Reconciliation: Prepare and post monthly journal entries for lease transactions, including adjustments for rent payments, interest, and amortization. Reconcile lease-related balances and accounts regularly.
- Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of financial statements by ensuring accurate reporting of lease assets and liabilities. Assist in the preparation of footnotes and disclosures related to leases in compliance with ASC 842 and other relevant standards.
- Lease Data Management: Maintain and update the lease database, ensuring it reflects all new, modified, and terminated leases. Track lease renewal dates, expiration dates, and other key contract milestones.
- Audit Support: Provide lease-related documentation and analysis for internal and external audits. Work closely with auditors to ensure compliance with ASC 842 and resolve any audit queries.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving the lease accounting process and contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to lease management and accounting.
- Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Work closely with the legal, procurement, and real estate teams to review lease agreements and ensure that all pertinent lease data is accurately captured and accounted for.
- Training and Education: Stay up-to-date with changes to lease accounting standards and best practices. Educate and train relevant stakeholders within the organization on ASC 842 requirements and lease accounting processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in lease accounting, with in-depth knowledge of ASC 842.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Experience with lease management software and with SAP.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with audits and preparing financial disclosures related to leases.

- the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure.
