Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
We are seeking an experienced engineer to help develop new medical laser technologies and applications. As part of a tightly knit, innovative, and dynamic R&D team, you can see your work come to life as it is manufactured on-site and used in our clinic! Working within a diverse range of engineering disciplines including laser physics, power and digital electronics, mechanics, software, and biomedicine, you will have a direct impact on future Cutera devices and thereby influence the future of dermatology.
Projects involve a broad range of technologies including complex solid-state lasers and optical delivery systems. The ideal candidate would have excellent experimental and computer modeling skills in one or more of these areas and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, but stimulating and collaborative environment. This position provides high visibility for innovative work and an opportunity to initiate and pursue creative and promising new ideas.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop new medical laser technologies and applications by experimentation and modeling. Design, set up, and conduct laboratory experiments. Develop and apply software models to design and characterize the performance of new laser systems.
- Build and test prototypes of new product concepts. Analyze and resolve problems that arise.
- Help define project priorities and work aggressively to meet the schedule for project milestones.
- Summarize results in clearly written reports and presentations. Communicate status of projects and tasks regularly.
- Support early-stage clinical trials for new products.
- Support evolution of new products through the product development process.
- Stay current with developments in academia and industry by reviewing relevant literature and attending conferences. Apply this knowledge base to develop new products and applications.
- Other duties as needed or required.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in physics, physical chemistry, or engineering with 0-3 years of experience in the development of commercial solid-state free-space lasers (not including laser diodes).
- Or M.S. degree in physics, physical chemistry, or engineering with 3+ years of experience in the development of commercial solid state free-space lasers (not including laser diodes).
- In depth knowledge and experience in laser physics and optics is required.
- Experience with advanced concepts in laser physics, classical optics, and nonlinear optics is strongly preferred.
- Experience in using software for data analysis and modeling of optical, thermal, or laser devices. Examples include Mathematica, MatLab, Zemax, Paraxia, COMSOL, and Python.
- Experience in developing software for data acquisition and hardware control using LabView, Visual Basic, Delphi, Python, or equivalents.
- Basic knowledge and experience in digital and analog electronics and circuits.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- A drive and passion for developing a holistic understanding of problems and developing creative, practical solutions in a timely manner.
- Experience with fiber lasers, product development, or medical device design is a plus.
Additional Information
Cutera expects to reasonably pay in the range listed below for this position based on the city and state listed in the job posting:
Annual base salary: $125,000 - $150,000
The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, education, and candidate residence if the position is remote or field-based. We reserve the option to pay above this range for exemplary experience or higher education.
