Job Overview:
The Senior IT Technician (IT Consultant) will provide technical expertise to support and maintain IT infrastructure and end-user environments for the Department of Treasury’s IRS. The role involves troubleshooting, optimizing, and ensuring the reliability of IT systems, while adhering to security and compliance standards. The consultant will act as a key resource for IT support, process improvement, and the deployment of new technologies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- IT Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
- Diagnose and resolve complex system errors and connectivity problems.
- System Maintenance and Optimization:
- Perform routine system upgrades, patches, and backups.
- Ensure optimal performance of hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Deployment and Configuration:
- Install, configure, and maintain IT equipment, including desktops, servers, and networking devices.
- Assist in the deployment of Microsoft 365 services and integrations.
- Compliance and Security:
- Implement and maintain security measures in compliance with federal standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST).
- Ensure adherence to data protection and privacy protocols.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of incidents, solutions, and configurations.
- Provide regular updates and reports on system performance and support activities.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with stakeholders to identify IT needs and propose solutions.
- Coordinate with external vendors and internal teams for system improvements.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The project focuses on enhancing the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) efficiency, collaboration, and productivity by managing and optimizing its comprehensive M365 cloud environment. This initiative involves integration, administration, and technical support for key platforms, including Power Platform (Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate), SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, Exchange Online, Microsoft Copilot, and AvePoint Online Services.
The team of contractors will provide expertise in areas such as governance, security, compliance, and system optimization to ensure seamless functionality and user experience. Tasks include implementing organizational change management, developing modernized processes, and introducing best practices tailored to IRS needs. This project also aims to address critical activities such as data protection through Purview, PowerShell scripting for automation, and resolving high-priority technical incidents across the cloud suite.
Deliverables include transitioning into the project with detailed documentation and plans, providing ongoing technical and operational support, and ensuring a smooth knowledge transfer and service continuity during the project's conclusion. The overarching goal is to align M365 tools and services with the IRS's strategic objectives to foster innovation, streamline workflows, and maintain robust data security and compliance measures across the organization.
