Position Overview:
- The Senior IT Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT infrastructure systems to support enterprise operations.
- This role involves managing a wide array of technologies, including operating systems, virtualization, security controls, compliance tools, disaster recovery planning, storage systems, and high-availability configurations.
- The ideal candidate is a technical leader who ensures the systems' security, reliability, and scalability while mentoring team members and aligning solutions with organizational goals.
- The engineer will work closely with the IT Infrastructure Manager, the broader infrastructure operations team, collaborating closely with cybersecurity and business services teams, as well as other technology and business units to ensure to ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance of systems critical to organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize virtualization platforms, ensuring scalability and high availability.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of cybersecurity controls to safeguard infrastructure systems.
- Manage and optimize advanced configuration of operating systems, ensuring secure and reliable and secure operation of machines.
- Support network services and application layer management, ensuring optimal system performance and availability.
- Perform timely patch management, updates, and system optimization to protect infrastructure and maintain operational efficiency.
- Work closely with cybersecurity teams to implement patches, updates, and configurations necessary for protecting infrastructure systems.
- Assist in provisioning and administration of virtual machines, ensuring efficient resource allocation and system performance.
- Collaborate with business services to align infrastructure operations support with business needs and ensure service continuity.
- Provide technical support during incidents affecting infrastructure operations, coordinating resources to resolve issues promptly.
- Conduct regular log reviews and audits to detect, respond to, and resolve potential security threats and operational issues
- Perform virtual and physical machine provisioning and administration, ensuring efficient resource allocation and performance monitoring.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of infrastructure operations projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of infrastructure operations, and suggesting enhancements where necessary.
- Provide on-call support for critical infrastructure operations to ensure the continuity and responsiveness of operations.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, such as NERC CIP, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant standards and best practices.
- Create and Maintain documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures to support compliance and operational continuity.
- Prepare status reports and keep management, client and other stakeholders informed of project status and related issues.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to functional area.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, electrical engineering, business, or a related field
- Eight (8) or more years of Information Technology (IT)
- Hands-on experience with Operating Systems, virtualization technologies, and cybersecurity controls, disaster recovery, virtual environments, and hypervisors
- Understanding of compliance requirements and security standards related to infrastructure management.
Required Skills:
- Ability to apply and maintain security controls, including patching, updates, and configurations to mitigate vulnerabilities, perform vulnerability scanning, and implement endpoint security solutions.
- Understanding of network services such as DNS, DHCP, IP Address Management (IPAM), and experience configuring local and firewalls
- Deep understanding of Operating Systems management and troubleshooting and logging mechanisms
- Experience in deploying, managing, and optimizing virtual machines using and related tools for performance monitoring and capacity planning.
- Ability to plan and execute system patching, including identifying critical patches, scheduling updates, testing patches in a controlled environment, and ensuring minimal downtime and optimal security.
- Knowledge of identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with infrastructure operations and operating systems
- Experience in managing change control processes, minimizing disruption, and resolving operations-related incidents.
- Proficiency in patch management, log analysis, and system optimization for performance enhancement.
- Experience managing application services, optimizing performance, troubleshooting issues at the application layer, and ensuring services meet availability and performance objectives.
- Proficiency with scripting to automate repetitive tasks, enhance operational efficiency, and implement infrastructure as code for standardized deployments.
- Ability to create detailed documentation of systems, configurations, processes, and incident responses to support operational continuity Knowledge of change management concepts and critical systems functional testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technology solutions in business terms; an effective listener and communicator.
