Role: Senior Investment Accountant
Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Accounting, the Senior Investment Accountant is primarily responsible for investment accounting and analysis of financial data as it relates to the Company’s investment portfolio. The role includes involvement with the quarterly investment accounting close, assisting with various reconciliations, investment accounting disclosures, and liaising with portfolio managers, custodians and other external third-party service providers on an ongoing basis to ensure that investment accounting related matters are resolved on a timely basis. In addition, the Senior Accountant will assist with other accounting activities for the Company’s Corporate segment, including the design and execution of the internal control framework, as well as tactical process improvement initiatives.
The base salary expectation for this role is between $90,000 and $125,000. Actual base salary for the selected candidate may be higher commensurate with candidate experience and expectations. Responsibilities:
- Review, on an ongoing basis, the data integrity of the Clearwater accounting system, liaising with contacts at Clearwater to resolve identified issues timely.
- Analyze variances, highlighting potential inaccurate trade bookings or accounting treatment, and creating exception reports to identify potential data issues.
- Review journal entries for entities’ investment portfolios on a quarterly basis.
- Oversee and review the processing for intercompany securities transactions and investment clearing on monthly basis.
- Assist in preparing and analyzing quarterly investment accounting reports as required by executive management, including financial reports, in accordance with GAAP & Statutory Accounting Principles.
- Assist the corporate finance team with non-investment related close processes, including:
- Prepare detailed monthly and quarterly journal entries, including but not limited to; equity accounts, fixed and intangible assets, stock comp, etc.
- Prepare account reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain the appropriate level of workpapers and process & control documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and related footnotes, including:
- Consolidated US GAAP financial statements.
- Regulatory financial statements (US Statutory and Bermuda).
- Maintain internal controls over financial reporting (SOX and MAR).
- Liaise with external audit team.
- Support special project work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- CPA designation or candidacy and action plan required.
- Experience with Clearwater Investment Accounting System required.
- 2+ years accounting experience in Re/Insurance Industry.
- Public accounting / “Big 4” experience.
- Statutory basis accounting knowledge.
- Experience with preparing US GAAP and US Statutory financial statements and footnotes.
