About the Position:
The Senior HR & Payroll Manager carries out the day-to-day activities of the HR and Payroll function and supports special HR projects. The primary aim of the role is to enhance the overall staff experience and support the organizational effectiveness managing HR-related activities, ensuring alignment with both organizational goals and the union collective bargaining agreement. This role works with all staff and managers and to support them in the HR and management needs. This position reports to the VP of People and Culture Development
Job Responsibilities:
Payroll Administration
Manage payroll processes using ADP TotalSource, including new hires, terminations, status changes, tax updates, garnishments, and direct deposits.
Verify and process payroll data, calculate overtime and premiums, and maintain accurate records for timecards, leave accruals, and compliance.
Reconcile payroll accounts, respond to inquiries about deductions and employment verifications, and assist in developing payroll policies and procedures.
HR Administration
Administer HR policies and practices using ADP in alignment with organizational values and legal compliance.
Handle grievances, contract interpretation, and day-to-day administration for leaves, compensation, benefits, and employment changes.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding while managing personnel files and performance systems like CultureAmp.
Respond to staff inquiries and prepare analytical reports and recommendations.
HR Initiatives & Engagement
Collaborate with HR leadership on projects to enhance employee experience, promote equity, and drive organizational commitment.
Lead staff engagement campaigns and activities to foster a positive and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience in the nonprofit sector
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, with 3–5 years in a senior HR or Payroll role (nonprofit and union experience preferred).
Proficient in Google Suite and ADP WorkforceNow/TotalSource, with strong knowledge of HR/payroll laws and regulations.
Exceptional project management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing circumstances.
Team player who works independently while supporting organizational goals, with proven experience preparing reports and delivering engaging presentations.
