Job Description: Senior HR Generalist – Technical Function/Engineering
Location: Roanoke, VA, must be able to commute or relocate to Roanoke, VA, competitive salary and relocation offered.
Position Overview:
Virginia Transformer Corporation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior HR Generalist to support our Engineering teams and Technical Function for the corp. The ideal candidate will act as a strategic partner, working closely with the Technical leadership team to drive HR initiatives, support workforce planning, enhance employee engagement, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations. This role will play a critical part in talent development and retention within our technical and engineering teams, contributing to the company’s ongoing growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning:
- Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Manager at the Corporate Office to identify staffing needs and develop recruitment strategies for technical roles.
- Provide support in candidate evaluation and selection processes to ensure alignment with team requirements and organizational goals.
- Assist in the onboarding process to ensure new hires integrate seamlessly into the Engineering team.
Employee Relations:
- Serve as a trusted advisor for Engineering employees and managers, addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Conduct investigations and provide resolution recommendations in accordance with company policies.
Performance Management:
- Guide Engineering managers in performance evaluation processes, goal-setting, and development plans.
- Provide coaching and support to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
Training and Development:
- Identify training needs specific to Engineering and technical teams; develop and implement programs to build skills and leadership capabilities.
- Collaborate with internal and external resources to provide technical training and professional development opportunities.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Partner with HR leadership to ensure competitive and equitable compensation structures for technical roles.
- Assist employees with benefits-related questions and issues.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as company policies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and prepare HR reports related to the Engineering function.
Culture and Engagement:
- Develop initiatives to promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture for technical employees.
- Organize events and programs to foster team collaboration and engagement.
Change Management:
- Support Engineering leaders in driving organizational change, restructuring, and process improvements.
- Act as a liaison during transitions to maintain productivity and morale.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR, with at least 2 years supporting technical or engineering functions.
- Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Proven experience in talent development and workforce planning.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Experience with HRIS systems and data-driven decision-making.
- PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
