We are seeking a motivated candidate who is willing to learn and join our current multi-disciplinary team in executing technically challenging site investigation and remediation projects for a wide range of clients throughout the Northeast.
Your Impact
This position involves the implementation of project work associated with multimedia (air, water, soil, and biota) investigations and remediation. The selected candidate needs to be a self-starter, open to learn, adaptable to change, have a strong work ethic, and thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities.
This position offers the opportunity to learn from and grow with an established team and to address complex environmental challenges by executing the following roles/responsibilities:
1) Lead teams performing environmental sampling (e.g., surface water, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air) and oversee subcontractors in the field (e.g., drillers) and ensure proper procedures are used to complete and document filed activities and observations.
2) Perform professional environmental science work and conduct investigations, inspections, and environmental studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular environmental problem or issue, verify site characteristics, and/or to plan for future environmental needs.
3) Assist with environmental site assessments (ASTM Phase I and II).
4) Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
5) Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to address, prevent, control, or restore environmental problems.
6) Assist with development, scoping, and budgeting of tasks and projects.
7) Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
8) Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
9) Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
10) Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
11) Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- B.S in Geology or other related field such as environmental science or natural resources.
- 5 to 7 years of experience working as a geologist/environmental scientist and completing environmental investigations, fieldwork, and/or construction monitoring
- Demonstrated experience contributing to technical reports
- Project or task management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and Fit for Duty Exam.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) is preferred.
- Regulatory experience in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, or New York is preferred.
- Demonstrated progress towards earning professional registration i.e. PG, LSP is preferred.
