WHAT YOU’LL DO
We are a Health and wellness-focused supplement company seeking a highly motivated senior-level Food Scientist to expand its line of healthy functional food products by assisting in developing innovative prototypes and healthy commercial food products. This hands-on position requires a desire and ability to work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as the demonstration of a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and initiative applied to the various duties and aspects of the position. The candidate will conduct lab-scale and pilot-scale trials to develop food applications utilizing relevant technologies
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads the identification, assessment, and validation of formulations from benchtop through commercialization. Executes experimental trials from the lab, pilot, and production scale and requires collaboration from internal and external partners.
- Provides technical support in troubleshooting and resolving ingredient, formula, and process issues in the manufacturing environment, managing product and process changes as required.
- Works hands-on with the operations team to ensure production systems meet sensory and nutritional requirements.
- Captures high-quality data, creates SOPs, and maintains accurate and complete records/reporting for stakeholders.
- Relies on science to support assertions when troubleshooting or conducting root cause analysis.
- Designs and executes experiments and prepares reports for review. Presents key learning and project outcomes to senior management as required.
- Oversees first production runs to ensure proper manufacturing of the developed or modified products.
- Creates technical documents, specifications, and production process instructions, ensuring training and transfer of specification knowledge to Quality and Manufacturing Operations.
- Creates and adheres to product development schedules to meet project timelines.
- Handles multiple projects and prioritizes them based on business objectives and timelines.
- Easily adapts to changing priorities.
- Identifies and proposes process and facility improvements that would increase efficiency or speed of execution.
- Sustains a high level of competence and professionalism in a dynamic business environment.
- Understand food safety consistent with the FDA code.
- Ensures Prop 65 compliance.
- Other Duties as Assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry, food science/engineering, or related field in science. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years in the food manufacturing industry
- Previous experience with snack bars, protein bars, and chocolate products development and application science is highly preferred.
- Experience with new product development processes, recipe creation, implementation, documentation, and running new product launches.
- Excellent analytical and statistical skills, strong attention to detail, good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle and lead multiple projects at any given time in a team environment.
- Ability to think beyond their own (R&D) function to consider the organization and its purpose holistically.
- Working knowledge of computers and aptitude to learn new programs
- Proficient in MS Office
